Question about Mitsubishi Televison & Video

2 Answers

Lamp light is red on my WD-57831. Sometimes turning tv off for a little while works, but other times it goes out again... I have company coming to watch a game next weekend and don't want to risk it going out again, but don't want to replace the lamp unnecessarily. I also moved recently and am wondering if something could have happened in the move?

Yes, the issue started after my move - which was about a month ago. So I'm not sure if it's the catalyst or not.

I opened the panel and did not see anything - though, admittedly I don't know what I'm looking for. However, with the exception of when I checked the panel, I've had the tv on for almost 2 hours now without issue. Do you think yesterday was a fluke? Is there any setting I can check to test the lamp life? It was replaced probably about a year ago.

    Thanks for the assistance.

Please check connectors on circuit boards and mounted circuit boards on main board of TV that can be loose / misaligned during move, press connectors and boards just to make sure all are intact properly.
Also check lamp door (first part of lamp housing in TV) that should be fixed securely in its position as you said lamp was replaced once.
Lamp consumption time reading would be available in firmware of TV but it is tech job to go into service mode to read out lamp hours. I would not recommend any user to go into service mode because any wrong button push can mess with TV data.
Thanks.

Its quite possible if it was not moved gently. Did this problem occur before the move or only after? If after then its very possible that a slight bump or rattle could have shaken something loose (hopefully not broken it). You can do a quick spot check by opening the rear of the set (unplug power first) and look for any lose connection or componets that look out of place. Make sure you be very careful of the electrical circuit as tv's have series of capacitors that will hold residual voltage up to 48hrs after unplugging and can cause a mild shock if you touch them.

The first would be excessive dust causing inadequate airflow through the lamp cage. Cleaning the filter may resolve the problem.

It could also be that one, or both, of the temperature sensors could be defective. This is a known problem to the extent that Mitsubishi extended the warranty an extra two years on your model and similar models with the same design.

As part of our commitment to quality and customer satisfaction, MDEA is announcing an extension of the warranty coverage to replace the thermal sensor for the above referenced models. Status indicator flashes 3 short times, then one long red flash

Once the status light blinks 3 times, this is an indication that there's a problem with the lamp. The lamp may need a replacement.

If you replace the lamp, but get the same problem, check the inverter board.

If you're not sure where the inverter board is, then you may need to contact a pro for your safety.

Good luck and have a good evening!

Mitsubishi DLP overheating

Mitsubishi has problems with the thermal sensor going bad. They extended the warranty for several sets. The sensor is right by the lamp. Call mitsubishi and insist they do something for you. If you keep playing your set, the bulb could also be at risk. I would think your set is covered being a 62" set. Good-luck and be sure to act ASAP.
