Check power Supply as it might have shortened the power, Open the case and remove the big white power lead from the motherboard (this is clearly visible as all the colored leads re and yellow from the power supply - normally a P4 feed into the socket).
Unplug this, find another power supply and using the big white cable connect this to the motherboard and try powering the machine up with that.
If works - great just replace all power cables from the power supply in your machine with the ones from the working one (not forgetting to remove the old power supply from the computer and replacing it with new one).

This should work

This sounds like the power supply in the computer has failed. Replace the power supply.

Laptop wont boot up, black screen, has power

You didn't post the Make, Model of Laptop or the OS you are using. I'll use a Win 7 solution. Boot the Laptop, open the Control Panel, select Power Options, set to High Performance, select Change Plan Settings, set SLEEP to Never, select Change Advanced Power settings, go through the settings , set SLEEP and Hibernate to Never, Power buttons and Lid to shut down. Always shut down and unplug your laptop when not in use to prevent damage from power surges and possible Fire hazard IF the battery malfunctions. A reboot every day will reset the computer.

Method to reboot system using CD/DVD or without

There are Various(different) Methods to Reboot Your Computer 1.) Click "Start," then "Turn Off Computer," then "Restart." else 2.) Press "Ctrl," "Alt" and "Delete" simultaneously. Then click "Shut Down" and select "Restart." 3.) Press and hold the power key. Most systems will power down after about five seconds. This will force a hard power down. This method does not give hardware in the system, such as hard drives, a warning that power will be lost, so it is not graceful and should only be done if the above methods did not work. 4.) Unplug your computer and plug it in. And turn on the computer. This will also make force a hard power down, "Make sure that if the other command/option did not work (function)" so you should only do it if other methods did not work.
Reboot Using a CD or DVD 1.) Place "insert" the CD or DVD into the disc drive of your system (e.g E:,F: or G:) that you have. 2.) Restart your computer using any of the methods listed under "Various Methods to Reboot Your Computer." 3.) When prompted, press any key to boot the computer using the CD. 4.) Contact your computer's manufacturer if this does not work, and make sure that the CD or DVD is good. If not it will not work "Cannot run for booting" or computer may not be set up correctly, and various troubleshooting methods are required to figure out what is not working.
Else if you want to Reboot Your Computer into Safe Mode Here are the step to run in a "safe mode" 1.) Turn off your computer and Wait for few seconds. 2.) Restart your computer. 3.) Start tapping the "F8" key for a while and wait till the "windows advanced option" menu appear. 4.) When the "Windows Advanced Options Menu" appears, select "Safe Mode" using the arrow keys on your computer and press "Enter" key in your keyboard.

All the Best!

HP had blue screen and said it would shut down. Problem is that it does turn off, so that it can be re-booted. Have tried to shut off PC, but continues to come on and not start.

Hold the power button in for 10 to 15 seconds for hard shut down if that doesn't work unplug power for about 5 minutes then plug power back in and see what happens

After power outage, printer displays not shut down properly and keeps rebooting.

Hold the "#" and "6" key down as it reboots. This is the equiv to a cold reset. However, I cannot setup my wireless now that I've done that done the reset. It immediately reboots and goes back into the same problem. So, has the wireless section gone bad??

Computer well not boot

The computer may have done a routine software update that automatically reboots the PC when complete. HP is known for this. If it fires up when you turn it on, no worries. If its DOA then thats another issue. Best regards.

Power light turns amber after shut down

Firstly please install Service pack 2, there are too any security problems with service pack one and power settings problems, this can be ordered free of charge from Microsoft or downloaded. When you say it boots up when you plug it in do you mean it comes out of Hibernation and returns to the desktop saying programmes are running or does it do a full boot up. Sounds as if you need to go into the bios to enable ACPI, see this post on how it's done. http://www.fixya.com/support/t121839-monitor_turns_off_automatically. Go into control panel>power options and click advanced tab to make sure the power button at bottom reads 'when i press the power button on my computer' 'SHUTDOWN' Then on the hibernation untick enable to see if it cures it.
