You would be wasting your time as there are not many routers that support more than 54mbps and very few ISP's

Why my internet works with cable but not wireless?

Because the wi fi chip on your laptop has either been turned off (lots of laptops have on/off switches on key board to disable this chip when not used to conserve battery power) OR for some reason the driver associated with the chip is not working properly. U can go to device manage and under "network adapters" click on your chip and have the driver reinstalled - that should resolve the matter and upon rebooting the computer should detect your wireless network.

I had to return a laptop because the wireless chip went south. Anyway, if your chip is bogus, you can always get an external wireless stick for about ten dollars - repairing the chip on your mo bo is prohibitive in expense.

If your computer is giving you a message regarding a corrupted or missing file, you can try getting the file from the internet or from another working computer that has same file.

Model 769 have the intel 3945abg chip inside, if you visit the Intel download site you can fetch the latest proset wireless package.
A reinstall solves most Wireless issues.

Alternatively you can download a much older version from the Lenovo site.

My computer says its connect to my wireless network yet I can't access the internet!

Try resetting your router first off. Then repair your connection by right-clicking on the connection. You may have a sketchy router or one that could benefit from a firmware upgrade. I would get into the router's homepage and check the settings for your connection, then make sure your getting IP addresses and DNS addresses from your ISP.
