Question about Compaq Keyboard
The keyboard keys that have purple numbers are locked. I am unable to type letters on these keys, only the numbers. How do I unlock? I have a NEC Versa P8210 laptop. I have had to use my desktop computer to send this message? Thanks.
Your "Num Lock" is on.
Look for the num lock key (it's similar to the "caps lock" key in function)
If the "num lock" is blue, you may have to hold a blue "fn" key when you press num lock
There's is probably a light at the top of the keyboard that'll tell you when num lock is on.

Hold th "Fn" key down and press F11 on your keyboard, the light should go off and you should be back to normal.

Tips for a great answer:
Examine your keyboard to ensure your "Number Lock" key is not activated.
This activation is indicated by the key being lit up.
If the key is activated, press it to deactivate the lock.
The number lock key will deactivate an entire segment of your keyboard
Start, click Run, and type regedit to open the Windows registry editor.
In the registry, open the below folders.
Within the keyboard folder, you should have a string value named "InitialKeyboardIndicators" with a value of 0, 1, or 2. Below is the explanation of each of these values.
0 = Num Lock is turned OFF after the logon.
1 = Disable Num Lock.
2 = Numlock is turned ON after the logon.
hope this helps
