have you checked the ink levels? sometimes the black runs out before other colors because it is used more commonly. it could be that the device is unable to detect that it has no black ink and therefore will not notify you that it has run out. i suggest trying a replacement ink and seeing if that solves the problem, if not, then there is a problem with the hardware of the printer.
This is called duplex printing or two sided printing. If you want to disable it, you can go to
Start>Devices and Printers>Right Click on your default printer>Select printer properties>Click on the box where the check mark appears in the box "duplex printing." This will remove the check mark. Click ok.
Go to this link. In the search window in the center of the screen, type "duplex printing" and click on the Search button. Then click on the item "How do I print on both sides of the paper". Next, click on "Set automatic duplex printing (Mac)" and follow the directions to set the printer for printing on both sides.
It is possible that your print head may be clogged. Even though you have ink, if the print head is clogged it would not print anything of certain colors. I believe this device has separate print heads so you should consider either replacing them or cleaning them according to the manufacturers suggestions. There are detailed instructions in Chapter 10 - Page 148 of the manual. If you don't have the manual, it is available online at
