Question about Samsung HLN5065W 50" Rear Projection HDTV-Ready Television

Intermittent problem of no picture

My 3 year old 5065W will not show a picture at all. For a while, when I first turned the set on, sometimes I could hear the light engine trying to start the set up, but it would recycle and I would get no picture. Sometimes I could unplug the set and then plug back in and the problem would go away. This only happened every couple of months. Recently this happened and unplugging did not help. I used a dust blower to blow out the back of the set through the vents and the TV started working, but only for a couple of hours. When I turned it off, it would not start back up. Next, I took the back cover off and tried to clean off all the dust I could find. When I turned the set on, it worked. I watched TV for 2 hours with no problem. I turned the set off and on and it worked fine. But the next day, when I tried to turn it on I could not get a picture again. Now I am stuck. I had a technicial look at it and he said I need to replace the Light Engine which would be over $1500 except they do not make them for this set any longer. Samsung says they still make the components that make up the Light Engine but they would be more than $1500. Of course it is not worth nearly that to fix a 3 year old 50 DLP TV. Plus, I cannot believe it needs a new light engine when it was working intermittently. I believe my unplugging, dusting, cleaning worked because I have loose connection somewhere and must have reconnected it each time I was moving the set around. Where do I go from here? Anybody want to buy a used 5065W that won't work?

I have a Mitsubishi WD52631 that seems to have intermittent problems turning on

Ballasts were sometimes problems with this set, but I also ran into problems with lamp thermal sensor. It's a small rectangular device sort of cream color and about 1/8th X 3/16th X 3/4 inch in size with lead coming out of one end. Also check safety interlock switch, which is actuated by lamp access cover being properly closed.

Sony kp-57HW40, screen flickers with blue tint, then shuts off

The problem with you set is: focus block and(or) intermittent G1 short in a blue CRT(picture tube). To determine the tube failure, you must take front panel off, rectangular cover under it and gain access to CRTs. You will see 3 picture tubes with wiring and boards attached to them. on a bootom of the set there is a black plastic box with 2 rows of 3 potentiometers on raw is for the focuses, the other one is for the screen controls. it will be written on the box with letters R.G.B. first: take a light isolated handle screwdriver and tap very slightly on the neck of the right tube. Do not brake the glass! That's the blue CRT. It might have a blue color sticker on it or blue socket. Tv must be on and running, while you perform the test.If your tapping on the neck makes blue flashing, your CRT is bad, if not, try to play with blue "screen" potentiometer by turning left and right, slightly. If that will cause the blue flashes and hard to adjust, replace the unit.
Good luck,

My Samsung HLN5065W started to freeze to a black and white

I have a problem with my HLN 5065W Samsung DLP that 3 other folks have and no solution. After the set is on from 5 minutes to 6 hours, the screen will freeze in black and white, I can turn it off for 5 minutes and it will display a good picture again. Sometimes the screen will just go dark blue, TV has to be cycled on/off to get the display back. This problem is getting worse, started as once a month, now 3-5 times a day. I have a tech background and can read a schematic, HELP.

We have a 25 year old zenith console, pretty old.. but still functional.. we noticed that the tv turns blank to a green screen... no picture just green color shown on the screen, then it will go back to...

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, your described problem indicates that one of 3 color drive transistors (for the green) has developed either a cold solder (most likely) or an intermittent internal fault (leak). These transistors (or in some cases a single power pack module/IC) are normally found on a small squarish PCB (printed circuit board) at the very rear of the picture tube (CRT). At times, the green blank screen would also have diagonal fine lines or would appear to be overly bright.

In some rare instances, it could be the chroma section (least likely) or in worst case scenario the CRT (cathode ray tube) itself that is faulty (hope not).

Check and perform preliminary visual or necessary inspection. Pls post back result(s). Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.

Rear Projection TV Picture is all green with Horizontal Lines

It looks like you started out with an intermittent solder connection which may have been fairly easy to find early on. Now, unless a technican can make it come and go while tapping on the circuit board and repair the connection, it may be a very expensive shop repair.
