Lamp hours can only be displayed by connecting two test points in side the projector. in normal operation, a message will be displayed on the screen when the lamp hours = 1090. when the lamp reaches 1100 hours, the projector will shut itself off. when you do replace the lamp, be sure to reset the lamp time in the setup menu (this is covered in your manual).

Panasonic projector PT-L78 - Cannot get ride of Lamp time error. To reset the timer

How long ago did you replace the lamp?
If the lamp has not actually been replaced and you are attempting to bypass this safety feature then I have bad news for you. Once the projector determines current flow through the lamp has exceeded the threshold amount, it will put the projector into the mode it is in now - Critical Lamp Replacement. You can set the projector bulb to low power output and see if that allows you to reset the bulb life timer but, again, if you have not actually replaced the bulb assembly, you are in danger of the bulb bursting under pressure. This can actually damage the projector.

You can find the manual for your projector at

Lense hours

Hello muhammad
Projector's lamp life is said to be, not with the lens life. Lens is made up of glass. But lamp will go weak. the life of lame will depend on how much time the projectior have used. Normal life of Panasonic projector bulb spans between [1800 to 2000] continous use. It means, if we take the low life span of the bulb as 1800 Hours [1800/24=75 Continous days]. If we use it for 4 hours a day, the bulb may last for [1800/4=450 days ie 1 Year and 85 days] OK.

I replaced the bulb in my projector recently and now it tells me to replace the lamp again. The projector shows 5000 hours of use on it but im sure thats not correct. How can i reset that?

Turn on projector, press menu on remote. go to "Option"menu and press enter, go to "Lamp Runtime" press AND HOLD enter for 3 seconds. After doing so, "Lamp Runtime" will change to "Time Reset {Power Off}" now turn off power. (Dont hit menu or enter as it will cancel this procedure...just power off. Hope this helps.

Keeps turning off

So, Shutting down to protect itself. The error light says it needs service, Cycling power makes it work for a few more minutes, then the Panasonic safety circuit shuts it down. Projector shuts down when bulb life gets to the danger zone, and also when its heat sensor says there is a problem.
So you have a bulb life issue or you have a dirty projector / fan cooling issue??

I say clean it up with some compressed air when it is cool, then check the # of hours the bulb has on it (in the menu).

Lastly brace yourself, the bulb is gonna hurt you :-$

How do I find the remaining bulb life for the Sanyo PLC SE-20

There is not a set time for bulb life. The projector will have a timer built in to tell you how many hours it's been running. I've had projectors that I've reset the warning twice before I've noticed any performance issues with the bulb. That particular bulb has a life of approx 2000 hrs, so go through the menu on your projector and find the "lamp timer" or something similar to that and do some simple math. :)

you won't get another warning for 2000 more hours on a lamp that is good for only 2000 hours (give or take). so, if you don't replace it, you run the risk of the lamp exploding at the end of it's life, sending shards of glass and mercury dust throughout the projector.

on my XU 55 the trick to read the lamp hours is to press and hold down the power button in about 20 seconds when the projector is turned on. there will come a window in the upper left corner that tells about total hours and lamp hours. the window will disappear quite fast, so one might need to do it twice.
