I have cleaned the head, looked down the hose and can see nothing, felt that the suction at the end of the hose is very strong, and cleaned the internal dust filter and dried it. Still the rotating head does not rotate. Any clues?

Yes, the brush roll does turn freely with some small resistance, no, there is no noise from within the head. thanks for your help. By way how do I check the belt. Do I have to take the head apart by undoing the top screws ?Yes, the brush roll does turn freely with some small resistance, no, there is no noise from within the head. thanks for your help. No Brand posted so try this, does the brush roll turn freely but with some resistance? Is there any noise from the head itself as though the drive mechanism inside is spinning and perhaps you have a broken beltrNo Brand posted so try this, does the brush roll turn freely but with some resistance? There is a short tube at the bottom and the changeover valve that switches from tools to the floor when you pull the handle back into vacuuming mode. Make sure the valve is switching back and forth smoothly and properly.
1) The suction is not good and is not making the turbine head run. Clean the filters/ head and check the hose for blockages
2) The Turbo head has more friction than it should. Remove the brushes from the turbo head and remove all hair etc from the bearings with tweezers.
If it still does not work the the most common problem is the bearing retainer in the turbo head has heated up and come loose. This is a very hard repair I do but for most they should buy a new turbo-head.
Check the following after unplugging the power cord from the outlet.
- Check for suction at the back of the unit, after removing the hose where it attaches to the back of the vacuum. If there is NO suction, the machine will need to be taken to a local Service Center for inspection.
If there IS suction at the back of the machine with the hose removed, please check the following:
Unplug the unit from the outlet.
- Check the Pre and Post-Motor filters for debris. Dirty filters can restrict airflow. The pre-motor foam filter is square and located in a pull out tray underneath the dirt cup. The foam filter may be hand washed in cold water with mild detergent. Reinstall the filter when it is completely dry. The post-motor HEPA Media filter is rectangular and located on the side of the machine. Note: The white HEPA Media Post-Motor Filter is not washable. - Ensure the dirt cup is empty. - Check the upper tank for build up or clogs. - Twist the inner cyclone to the left and pull down - Wipe the inside of the upper tank and separator plate with a damp cloth moistened with water or mild cleaning detergent. - Once the inner cyclone is dry, lock back into the machine by pushing up and turning to the right. - Put the dirt cup back in - Check for good suction at the end of the upholstery hose. If there is good suction, make sure the hose is firmly connected to the lower hose on the back of the vacuum. If there is no suction at the end of the hose, check the hose for splits, cracks or clogs. - Make sure the brush is rotating. If it is not, remove the access plate and examine the brush, and belt for damage. The access panel can be removed by lifting the 4 tabs located at the bottom of your machine. Lift tab 1 then 2-4 tabs to remove the access panel.
CLEARING CLOGS - Detach the upper hose from the machine. Insert a broomstick into the hose to push any obstruction through to the opposite end. - Remove the screw from the left side of the lower hose on the back of the unit, and straighten this section of hose by pulling it down or lay the unit out flat, and roll the unit on its side with the lower house towards the top side. Look through the hose for any obstructions. Push a broom stick through the lower hose to unclog.
- Check the dirt cup to make sure it is empty. - Your vacuum has 3 filters. Dirty filters will restrict air flow. The filters may be hand washed in cold water with mild detergent. Allow them to completely dry prior to reinstalling them. The white HEPA media post-motor filter is not washable.
- Lift the upholstery hose from the bottom holder. Check for suction at the end of the hose.
If there IS good suction at the end of the hose, please unplug your machine from the outlet and try the following:
- Ensure the hose is firmly pressed into the lower hose outlet on the back of the vacuum. - Check to ensure the brush is rotating. If it is not, remove the plate on the bottom of the vacuum. Check the belt and clean the roller of dirt and debris. - Check the lower hose for clogs by removing the screw which attaches it and lifting the hose up to clean it out. Also, remove the larger hose by twisting it off and using a broomstick handle, push any dirt and debris through the hose.
OK - there are two obvious things to check: 1. Make sure the brush is rotating. The DC14 has a 'brush control system" operated by a knob on the base in front of the right side wheel. Make sure this hasn't accidentally been moved to the "off" position. With it in the "on" position, switch the machine on, tilt the handle back and check that the brush roll is rotating. If it isn't, then there's a broken belt or a problem with the clutch mechanism in the brush control system. 2. If the brush is rotating, switch the machine off (and unplug it), turn it over and you will see a short length of clear plastic hose with spiral reinforcing that runs from the brush area to the motor. That hose often develops a split (which lets air in and reduces suction around the brush). Take that hose off (pull it off from the motor end and then unscrew it from the brush end) and inspect it carefully for any damage. If it is damaged, get a new one - don't try and repair the old one, it's not worth it.
I hope this helps - if so, please remember to rate my response. If you need more help, just post a reply here and I'll see what more I can do. Good luck!
Theres a little bendable neck that hose with suction plugs into. Thats the one thats clogged. You will have to fish it out by taking off the roller and clearing the clog.
Hi, I had the same problem with my Eureka vacuum cleaner. I don't have the problem with the beater bar, but I had the problem with the attachment hose not getting any suction. I found out that I was putting attachment on the wrong end of the hose. The end that you use in the front. Don't how I got that confused because it always worked before. Hope this helps with the hose part of the problem.
