I recently bought a new PC Formatter board from HP for my Laserjet 1220. Unfortunately it is shipped with an out of date firmware version and needs upgrading. The firmware is not available to download from the HP website, and HP support is not willing to supply it. Do you know of place where it can be donwloaded foc?

normally can be the network card. upgrade the jetdirect firmware and the printer firmware if you can, otherwise you need a new formatter board. before buy a new formatter you can try to bake its chip, warming it until 280°C for 20-30 seconds (but cover plastic parts around). sorry for my english
I'd be willing to bet that when you changed out the formatter, you used the silver square looking flash dimm from the old board and put it on the new board, If you replace the flash dimm I think your problem will indeed go away... 8mb Flash Dimm
Mem test failure replace Dimm 0 or Mem test failure replace Dimm 1
If either of the are the messages displayed, the problem lies with the mother board (formatter).
DIMM 0 = On Board Memory - cannot be changed.
DIMM 1 = Add On Ram - Can be Changed
Make Sure the printer firmware is up to date FIRMWARE
Most Likely the formatter board would require replacing.
Somewhat common failure code on the P3005 machines. Unfortunately this means that your formatter board has failed. Your machine MAY be repaired under warranty depending on it's warranty date with HP. Just contact HP and give them your printer model and serial number and have them check the warranty status. Trust me in what I am telling you, HP has had a large number of P3005 formatter board failures. If you want more info just do a google search on "HP P3005 formatter" or "HP P3005 dimm 0" and you will see this is a problem.
Good Luck and Thank You using Fixya.
Download the file and unzip to a known location on your compter, be sure to read the "README" file as it contains the instruction to upgrade the firmware. If after upgrading the firmware and the problem remains, you could purchase a new formatter from www.partsnow.com or any Hewlett Packard parts distributor. I wish you luck and I hope this has been benificial to you!!!
Hi this is a typical symptom of the firmware being out of date. Go to the hp website and download the latest firmware upgrade utility. If the firmware is updated and the problem continues it could be a problem with either the dc controller of the formatter board.
HP 2300 ERROR 49.XX
• A critical firmware error has occurred on the printer
• Turn printer off then on
• Disconnect the parallel cable or the network cable
• If message still there when the network cable is disconnected
upgrade firmware in jet direct card and the formatter board
• Bad network cable
• Replace firmware DIMM
• Replace the jet direct card
• Replace formatter board
• Replace engine board
95% of the time it is a PDF that has a font that is not recognized by the printer! If the error is not there when you follow the above, you may have to clear out the print queue.
The codes indicate firmware errors (possibly a failure of the formatter board, but more likely firmware). Up-to-date firmware is available for download at www.hp.com/support/LJP3005. Read the installation instructions for the firmware update. If you have ANY doubt AT ALL about your ability to successfully update the firmware, pay a shop to do it for you. A failed firmware update may not be recoverable, and the formatter board is rather costly.
It can be a defective fax module or formatter, but most likely, it is a software issue.
Make sure you have the latest firmware.
When/if firmware is the latest version and problem persists, go to Menu -> Service -> Restore Defaults.
If problem persists, it might be a good idea to try a different land line, if you have one available, before purchasing new hardware.
Please note you need a different board depending on which region of the world you live in. I'm assuming North America here.
The fax module for the 2840, is about $27.31.
Q3977-60011 - PC Board (Interface) : Line interface unit (LIU) PC board - Telephone interface board for the printer.
If the problem is in the formatter (main board), the price goes up to $405.65. Please not, that the LIU (fax module) is included in this.
Q3948-69006 - Formatter / LIU assembly (for North America) - Includes the formatter PC board, the line interface unit (LIU) PC board, and the metal card cage.
