Camera froze and lens is stuck out. Can't turn on.

I have the exact problem. My daughter took it on a field trip at school. Don't know what happened and, of course, she has not clue but the lens became stuck while extended. I tried batteries, memory card. I usually use rechargeables but went to Wallyworld and bought Duracell Ultra Digital batteries...no luck.

HELP! Doesn't Samsung have a solution for this??? It think I will call them.

My lens isn't stuck out it just won't come out. Turn it on.. 3 beeps and off it goes! Tapping the floor hasn't worked for me.

my camera lense is in, but camera makes 3 loud beeps when i turn it on, and shuts off.

  • Anonymous Jan 08, 2009

We did a combo of new, good batteries and banging on the floor.

We had put new batteries in it, but they were the cheapo's. couldn't get it to stay on OR get a picture on the screen for the few seconds we did turn it on. We banged it on the arm of the chair and got the picture back, but it still wouldn't stay on. Then we put new, better-grade batteries in and it works like a champ.

Thanks for your thoughts and suggestions!

my lens on the camera is stuck. Ive changed the batteries four times and the lens still wont retract. The camera beeps 5 times and then shuts off. Nothing I am doing will keep it on

  • chelseav84 Mar 14, 2009

I barely dropped my camera on the carpet and with little impact. Now the lens is stuck out and when I turn it on it beeps 3 times and then turns off, tapping it on the floor didn't work for me.

Mine got stuck with lens out. The batteries were new so I never imagined it could be the batteries, but they were cheap ones so I recharged a pair of good ones and once I put tried them on it worked just fine again. Conclusion, the "new" cheap batteries had only enough energy to turn it on and then they couldn't give it enough energy to make it work anymore and that's why I couldn't retract the lens or even turn it off properly. So in your case, try using a couple of good and new batteries.

I turn camera on. Lens comes out. beep 3 times. turns off.

Everytime I try to turn it on, the lens comes out for about a second, the camera beeps 3 times, the lens retracts and the camera shuts off. The battery is completely charged and the camera is only 4 months old. HELPP :(

Camera Stuck with lens out. Beeps

I dropped the camera on the table a couple of times, twisted the front of it. Suddenly the lens retracted into the camera, the beeping quit, and now I can take pictures again. The Samsung website is horrible.

Work issues

Jammed or off the track, try rotating the lens if it rotates out, maybe the middle coller part, or take it apart and see if you can see the fault. No other options, sorry. SO many lens problems with this design, too bad.

Camera beeps loud 3 times and shuts right off!!

sounds like a lens error, does the lens extend or retract? You probably have to get the lens back on track, use gentle pressure wiht the camera face down on a towel covered table and turn on to see if the camera tries to retract the lens. I really dislike these types of cameras that extend the lens everytime, if it turns on in your pocket, your doomed!

Digimax S500

The lens stays in the outmost position although batteries are fully charged. This has happend twice. The first time I had a valid waranty so the problem was fixed for free. Now it has happend again and there seems to be no way to get the lens back into the camera. Also the display is totally black.
I guess I have taken about 500 pictures since the last repair. Not very much - even a cheap camera should last for longer than that.
Never Samsung again!!!

When I try to turn on my camera (Samsung Digimax S500), it beeps 3 times.

My Samsung S500 kept shutting down (with lens extended but no beeping) as soon as it was turned on. After reading similar problems being caused by a jammed lens mechanism, I GENTLY twisted & tugged the extended lens mechanism (no crude comments please), and it worked the next time it was turned on.

Digimax 430 camera won't turn on

If your lens is open and the camera turns off after those dreaded beeps, I have a fix for your problem. Basically, for this model of camera, the lens first pushes out a bit and then it retracts into the camera. Well, my lens got stuck on the pushout and it prevented the camera from turning on. I used some finger pressure and wiggled the lens a bit. Then I turned it on and it retracted to where is was supposed to be to take pictures. Then I turned it off and it retracted into the camera. Problem solved!

It dont turn on

I had the same problem. Try to turn it on, 3 beeps and then it would shut down. Screen would come on for that time. Also, the lens was stuck open. It wouldn't close.

I twisted the lens (gently) and it appeared stuck. A gentle screw motioned seemed to free it. I hit the power button and it come on, but this time no 3 beeps and shut down. I then turned it off and this time the lens retracted and closed.

So, it appears that if the lens gets stuck open, it has a shut down feature that doesn't allow the camera to go further into its operation modes. I believe this stuck open problem occured on our camera when the batteries went low.

Again, a second of gentle twisting seemed to unstick it and with fresh batteries in, it was able to operate and shut down properly.

As far as batteries, I use the rechargeable Ni-Cad 2500 mA. They last a while.

Blessings to you!
