Wont start up.

Windows will not start up. No matter what I do Windows will not start up

  • kayl618 Sep 20, 2009

Yes, I did try to start in Safe Mode, but it kept on going to a blue screen saying that Windows could not start properly. It has never done this before so it scared me. Everytime I tried to restart it I kept getting the blue screen. I kept trying to get it to turn on, but it never worked.

I was actually talking to a friend on Skype when all of a sudden my laptop froze and then it turned off. When I tried to turn it back on I got that blue screen every single time.

My laptop seems to be responding pretty well so far to your advice. I didnt not get the blue screen this time; however, it is on a solid black screen at the moment.

What operating system are you using? Can you go to an earlier restore point? Did you make a boot disk? Are you at least getting a "C" prompt when you turn on the computer? Looks like this. C: Have you tried booting the computer with the original disk you received with your computer? It is important not to choose the option to reformat and reinstall the operating system yet.

Have you tried booting windows into "Safe Mode"?

1. Power ON your computer.
2. After the Acer "splash screen" comes on, press the [F8] a few times (10 times or so, to "catch" the menu)
3. A menu will appear.
4. Select "Start Windows in the last known good configuration" (or something very close to that wording).
5. It may start for you now; and it will start normally from now on without pressing the [F8] key.

Let us know if thjis worked.
If not, what was the last thing that was done before it quit working right? Download? Install a program? Remove a program??

    Ok, Turn OFF computer.

remove ALL memory from the laptop.

Put one stick, and only one stick back in. Make sure it is seated well.

    Restart computer in Safe mode.

If it doesn't work again, try the other stick of memory (if it has a second stick)

    ONLY ONE stick of memory...

If you force a shutdown (hold Power button down for 10 sec) then power back up. If no lights (Power, HDD, AC) try taking battery out and running off of just AC; After power up, tap the F8 key to try to get to Safe Mode. If no go then try with an ext monitor. After reboot, tap Fn-F8 to get video on ext monitor.

Just wondering where you are at with your computer? Again what was the last thing you did before it kind of died? You mentioned Skype --- did you share any socftware during this conversation?

Assuming it's not working just yet --- [email protected]

I have htc windows 8x phone. My phone wont charge! i plug it in and the red charging battery icon doesn't appears, but it wont turn on no matter how long i charge it. i just got my phone 5 days ag

I think you have damaged your charging pin in the phone by mistake either by dropping the phone or while taking the cord out or inserting. I think the best way to get this fixed will be to go show it to the store that you bought it from/microsoft store. Hope this helps. All the best.

My computer was left on as it always is. When i went back to it my windows had shut down and now it wont reload. it ask's me to start windows normal? or to start in safe mode or to start the last knows...

Seems that some Windows files got corrupted hence the Windows cannot load properly.
If you have a Windows installation CD, put that in start your machine and try to do a Windows repair rather than an installation.
If you don't have a Windows CD, but you have a restoration CD that came with the laptop, use that to restore your computer to the factory settings.
Thanks for using Fixya!

Trying to start my windows xp, but i got a black screen that states "sorry for the inconvenience windows did not start up sucessfully" it said to highlight what command desire. start windows normally...

Your PC has entered the netherworld (the mysterious regions below Windows).

Start to "Windows with Command Prompt" and execute the MSDOS command SFC (System File Check) - with your Windows Install CD handy (SFC will probably ask for it).

Once you get a command prompt (if you can), execute memory, and disk checks too (Why not?)

If you cannot get Windows with command Prompt to come up, execute ROM BIOS system checks - a bad memory location or card will cause a failure to boot, as will a bad Hard Drive HDA.

I had to replace a laptop's HDD last week after facing this exact same error.
Luckily it was a Dell Latitude E6400, and replacing the HDD is 2 screws and yank it out of the PCMCIA bus.

My laptop has been freezing for a while now, I've been getting a black screen with a blue bar across the bottom of the screen where the taskbar should be. Sometimes it boots up and makes me go into...

If you have Windows Installation disk, use to repair Windows.
First go inside BIOS(Setup) with Del or F2 and change under boot options for CD/DVD to boot up first before HDD.
Put the CD in, boot from it and select repair windows once it comes up

You have to scan the drive(s) for more virus.
If u recently install any new hardware disconnect it until u finish load windows service pk 2.
Or try again re-installing windows remembering not to plug in any cards etc.
