same problem only mine won't play 4 x either. Seems to only want 8 x. I don't understand. Owner's manual says nothing about speed.

Same problem - tried 5 times and got the same note on the screen. All disks were blank and were finalized as blanks now unusable.

Won't record on DVD+R discs no matter what brand. Says there is a defect and finalizes the blank disc.

I ran into the same problem where the unit would not accept any brand of DVD+R. I purchased four brands; Memorex, Maxell, Verbatim, Sony and they all failed one after the other. However, the unit did record on DVD+WR, but stopped working on DVD+R suddenly. I used to record on one brand by the name of Dynex (DVD+R) and everything was fine until two weeks ago when the unit stopped taking any other DVD+R brand.

After recording a program on a DVD+R disc, the TV screen says "Disc Finalize Processing...." and nothing else works. I can't stop it, watch it, finalize it, or power off.

The DVD burner in your DVD-VR is defective. Get it replaced at a service center. Is is not able to read the lead in lead out information from your disc. Try playing one of the disc you have written on another DVD player.

Cannot format a dvd-rw disc or record to the disc.

Unless you posted this question in the wrong category, you can't use the Sansui VRDVD4000 to record to DVD. It is a DVD player only, not a DVD burner. It will play and record VHS tapes, but with DVDs it will only play them.

To record to a DVD, you would need a DVD burner. Many modern computers include a DVD burner, so maybe either your computer or someone you know's computer has a DVD burner.

It sounds like the recorder will only record the dvd+ format, which does NOT need finalizing to play in other machines. ( you can record a dvd- , play it back on the machine you recorded it on, but need to finalize it to play on other machines)
The other units may only accept dvd-.(dvd- being the same format as you would buy or rent a film on)
One option, record the dvd on a dvd+rw (if possible) then copy to a dvd-r using your computer. The average use of a dvd+ is 1000 recordings.
There are many free disc burning suites available to download. Just google "free disc burning software" and take your pick.
I use 1 called "magix goya base" for copying disc to disc and "NTI" for burning to HDD and then to disc, if you only have use of 1 drive.

TV says WRONG DISC TYPE

is the dvd a store bought disc or a burnt dvd? If the disc is a store bought disc I unfortunately can't help you. But if the dvd you are trying to play is burned from dvd burner you are most likely using the wrong type of burnable dvd. There are two types of dvd's you can burn, DVD-R and DVD+R. You need to make sure which one you dvd player can play, some play one or the other, some play both. I have also heard of some older ones that can't play any type of burned disc. Hope that helps Peter

I purchased this RCA 8310 about 2 years ago. I have recoreded hundreds of dvd's. If I try to use anything but a Imation brand DVD+R, 8+ speed, I get the same error. It will not work with a 16+ dvd.
