Question about Canon PIXMA iP4200 InkJet Photo Printer
Make sure you are using Canon ink cartridges, and not generics or refills.
If good Canon cartridges do not solve the fault, there are two likely causes.
1. Your purge unit is damaged or clogged. Many times I have seen a printer work fine at the top of the page and poorly by the time it gets to the bottom. Many times this is solved by removing the purge unit and cleaning it. Most purge units have small rubber hoses that can become clogged with dried ink. I wouldn't suggest removing this unit unless you're technically inclined. You MAY actually have to remove the tubes from the pump in the unit and clean them before reassembling. I've seen many people get to this point and then fail to be able to reassemble.
2. Your head may be wearing out, or have cloggs. You can use the "Soaking Method" on most canon heads. Put some hot water in a cup. The cup should be wide enough to allow the bottom of the head to sit in it without allowing the entire head to fall in. Put enough water in the cup to cover the bottom portion of the head (the nozzles) only. Let the head soak overnight. Next day reinstall the head, do a few deep cleans or whatever the best type of clean your driver will give you.
Now, either everyhting will work fine or you'll find your cleaning cycle is not working, in which case goto step 1 above.
Our service centre does a strip and clean for $45. If it's less than half the cost of a new machine it might be worth considering taking it for service.

make all your printer settings to default. If any problem in that simply uninstall & re-install the driver.
If still no good, your black cartridge might have dried-up
