.) If the set will not adjust one of the two STK-392-560 convergence chips in this set is bad.
.) You can buy both chips on Ebay for less than 14 dollars plus shipping.
.) Usually, just both chips need to be replaced and the set adjusted--sometimes there will be a fuse or resistor that protects the chips bad as well.
.) If you are able to do this repair yourself you can save a lot of money---Most shops try to charge 300-400 for this kind of repair---I have done hundreds of them and here I charge 200-250 depending on the set.
.) If you are not able to do this yourself shop around where you live--if they say it has to go to the shop---keep looking as any good tech can do this repair right in your home--usually takes about 1 hour.
.) The reason this kind of problem happens in all rear projection sets is the chips are mounted on heat sinks to keep them cool(metal with fins) and a white grease(heat sink compound) is applied to the metal back of each chip to quickly transfer heat---after several years from the heat the grease dries out and one of the chips cannot stay cool enough and it fails.
.) After the chips and any other parts are replaced and the set adjusted--it should not have this problem again for several years.

hi, i have a 60 inch projection sony tv, from circa 2000, tv is fine but it seems as though the remote has stopped working, and not just the remote, but whatever the sensor in the actual tv itself, as the tivo remote wont control the tv , nor am i able to program ANY remote to run the tv... i guess my question is where is the sensor located? is their a way i can reset or replace or otherwise confirm what i expect? and has anyone heard of this before?
