Question about Tech Solution TS-8000 Cross-Cut Shredder

1 Answer

Shredder overheats quickly and can only do 2 pages...

My shredder used to do 3 full buckets of shredding before it overheated. Now it will only do half a bucket and it says it's jammed every five seconds, even with only two sheets of paper (it says max 12 sheets). I used to be able to do 10 sheets or so at a time. What happened?

I run a nonprofit, all volunteer small animal rescue and this shredder is very, very important for us. It saves us hundreds of dollars in bedding each month, and we just don't have the money for a new one right now. Someone please tell me there's a fairly easy solution to this...

Sadly I wish I could.
You are in need of a new drive motor in the device.
That is the item kicking out the overheat.
Sorry it is either replace the motor, or the shredder.

Omnitech wont shred papers.

Sounds like its jammed? Have a really close look for staples, paperclips etc stuck in the drive gears or blades

I emptied the bucket of my shredder and now it doesn't run. It is only about 1 year old and isn't used much.

Check you have replaced the top on the basket properly, is it the right way round? If not on properly it will not feed power for safety!

Beeps and stops; doesn't stop when empty

As for your first part - It sounds like there is something wrong with the switch lever that moves to complete the electrical circuit to start the shredder. On every shredder I have seen, there is a little "bellows" linked up to this lever that pushes it back so the machine will shut off. Most of the time all you have to do is put another piece of paper in and let that get shredded and the shredder will stop afterwards. If not, then just use the main switch to turn the shredder off.
Second, the beeping during "mid-shred" sounds like a warning that the shredder is starting to overheat and shut down. If this is the case, just wait a few minutes to allow it to cool down and try to finish the shredding you have. I have found that if you feed a shredder a constant stream of paper to shred, this might cause the shredder to overheat.
Also, the shredder may get overloaded with pieces of the shredded paper. Here is the way to check on that:
2. Lift the shredder from the bin and turn it upside down.
3. Look for an excessive amount of paper in the bottom of the shredder. If there is a lot, you can remove it in several ways. (Most likely the bin is quite full at this point.) Pull the majority of it out and put it in the bin. If there are pieces of paper that you can pull out with your fingers, use a tool (needle-nose pliers, serrated tweezers, a hemostat, etc.) to get those difficult pieces out.

Replace the unit on the bin making sure that it is the same way you took it off. In most cases (on the better shredders), there is a notch on the underside of the shredder that needs to be on top of a "nub" that is on the edge of the inside top of the bin. Unless that nub is aligned with the slot, the shredder will not work.

It only runs part of a sheet then it stops & you have to turn it off & back on

Most likely the shredder is overheating and/or jammed. You have 2 options: 1) wait--do not attempt to shred anything else for about 15 minutes--and then try again; or 2) unplug the shredder, pull the bucket off, and attempt to dislodge some of the shaving yourself from the teeth. This is potentially dangerous, so you might want to wear some heavy duty gloves and use a pliers to extract the shredded material.

The shredder overheats. The most we can shred are

Have you put any shredder oil or a shredder oil sheet through the machine.

Shredders need oiling to keep the cutters free

Free cutters mean clean cuts and less friction

Shredder will not start when paper is inserted. switch is on auto. This happened after a long session of shredding

Two possible problems;
  1. Teeth underneath lid are jammed; sometimes (especially after a long session) although the papers go through, debris builds up and can get caught in the teeth; to clear unplug and with tweezers or a tina flathead screwdriver, pull out shreds of paper still caught
  2. Motor is overheated; once cool, try it again (move switch to reverse to see if motor is still working). If motor is working, see Step 1 for a jam; some jams can be cleared by running it in reverse. Royal doesn't recommend "long" shredding sessions. My unit recommends sessions of 20 pages or less. If you try to overwork the shredder, it will overheat and in some cases, fry the motor.
I hope this helps answer your problem. Best of luck!

It stopped working after a big shred. I suspect an overheat. How do I reset it?

it's overheated, after you turn on the shredder, is it working?
if not, that means your shredder's motor is death.

Shredding stops after 2 or 3 inches

If you have a strip cut machine it may be a problem with the gears. if it is not a strip cut it may be overheating due to not being oiled. First check with your manual to make sure you are not exceeding your duty cycle some machines only have a 2min on and 10 min off cycle,
