I purchased this machine and went through two months of technical support, new drivers, uninstalling and installing software, new install cd from HP (that was older than the one that came with the machine) then finally a replacement printer - still no wireless capability with my compaq v2000.
Chased it all the way up to US senior support and a woman told me there that the wireless peer-to-peer feature only worked 50% of the time. She told me to buy a router - end of story.
I'll never buy another HP printer again, and I'll never spend the money on upgrading to peer-to-peer wireless for a printer again!
So - get a router and follow the instructions, and it'll probably work.

Jetdirect ex default ip

Usually it it set to pick up IP from DHCP/BootP.
If someone had assigned a fixed IP and it is now unknown. It is better to reset the print server to factory default by pushing the little reset button,
Then check you DHCP server for the newly assigned IP address.

You will need a version of HP Jetadmin or HP webjetadmin to configure this print server

Wirelessly connect to hp deskjet f380 printer

This model printer only has USB printer connection and it cannot be connected to a wireless network directly.
If you have a wireless router then you can connect a print server to this HP printer and then connect the print server to the wireless router. This will allow you to print wirelessly yo the HP printer when you configure the printer server and configure the printer driver in the computers to connect to the printer port IP address of the print server.

I'm pretty good at most computer stuff, but I'm stumped. I'm trying to connect an HPlaserjet5/5m to an HP 170X Print Server on a 16 port dlink switch. I cannot get the hp setup.exe to work off the...

I am not sure if you need the setup.exe file to configure the JetDirect 170x.If you take a look the manual for the JetDirect 170x ( it mentions that this is a "Test" button on the back of the print server. If you press that button when the printer is connect, then it should print out a configuration page. The configuration page will have an IP address that you can browse to with Internet Explorer to configure the JetDirect.

Need to install network printer to DLink Router

It has been a few months, so you probably have resolved this -- but just in case someone else is looking to find out the IP address on the internal print server of an HP Laserjet 4000n printer so they can set it up on their network, here are the steps to find the IP address on the HP JetDirect internal print server:

1. Have the Ethernet cable plugged in to the router and the JetDirect 600n card and power it on.
2. Make sure display screen on printer says "Ready".
3. Press the Menu button on the printer until you see Information Menu.
4, Press the Item button on the right (+) side until you see Print Configuration page.
5. Press the Select button and a configuration page should print.

One page is the printer's configuration and the other page is the print server configuration page. If you have a good JetDirect card, and good connection to your router, the IP address of the printer, plus its subnet mask and default gateway should be shown on the EIO configuration page.

If the printer has been manually set with a static IP address, subnet mask and default gateway that will not work on your network, you will see the settings will indicate "Configured by" User Specified.

To clear those settings and allow DHCP setting, perform a cold reset on the JetDirect card, by powering off the printer, holding down the green "Go" button and powering it back on until you see "COLD RESET," let go of the green Go button, wait a couple of minutes, then run another configuration page to see the freshly assigned DHCP address of the print server.

Hope this helps someone.

Not printing to network attached printer

I have a DLink DPR-1260, and found the configuration to be challenging too. First of all, has it ever worked? If not, you may need to check your router config to ensure that they are both on the same subnet. Typically they come set to 192.168.x.x... if the router is set to, the print server is set to, and your subnet mask is set to it'll never connect. Make sure that the router and print server are configured to the same subnet... 192.168.1.x for example... and then try it. Let us know if that doesn't resolve your issue, and we'll keep working with you.

Printer server, wireless, detached cable now won't print

It is because the WiFI connection is more than likely on another IP address ie: Cable: type thing. WiFi: Type thing... so ya have to configure ya access and point ya printer in the right direction, so reinstall ya printer & driver and when it asks where the network printer is, point it to the correct address of the router's port..
