Saeco Vienna: water does not go through to the main unit

My Saeco Vienna is acting up after about 4 years of great work: when I turn it on, the pump goes, but no liquid coffee comes out. We figured the water from water tank does not get to the main unit, because the machine's 'garbage' bin contains dry ground coffee, not the round wet tablets. Any ideas? Thank you.

I face exactly the same problem, but in my case it started already directly at the first use. Is the priming causing the problem?

We also have the same problem. We have the machine for 2 years

I have the same problem, coffee grinds, but not water.

I too have the exact same problem. Here are the steps I've done so far with no new results :

    1. I removed the water tank and pumped a 'turkey baster' to see if that would unblock the water path. Worked for 2 cups then still no water.

    2. I pushed air with an air mattress pump like with the 'turkey baster' and again 2 cups then stopped passing water again.

    3. Ran water through the steam valve and that works fine. The motor comes on and pushes water through.

Any suggestions in how to fix this problem. It's been down for 2 days now and I sooooo miss my espresso's. I work from home office and going through cafeine withdrawls ;o)

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, Andre.

Here is the symptom in details :

    - click on the brew button

    - the grinder grinds the beans

    - the system pushes the beans in

    - the pump starts with it's first water squirts and coffee gets wet

    - the pump makes its usual sound in preparation to push the water

    - the pump makes a soft humming noise through it's cycle but no water comes out

When I looked at the disposed coffee grounds, they were wet.

Then I immediately push 5 shots of air with a turkey baster and tried again.

    A cup came out !

I'm good for a few more cups and it seems to block again.

Same problem. Solution 1 does not work - I can't draw off a full cup of water. Solution 2 - _haven't tried this as I have no idea where the screws in the "brew group" are.

SAECO Comfort 4yr old. All my coffee "sizes" are the same...actually the short black is miniscule, and the long black (biggest) under 80ml ! I will check the cleaning etc 1st before a service call. Thanks for your suggestions.

I had the same problem and got on the Saeco US website and talked to an online support person. She downloaded me a couple of pages of "fixes", I tried them and they worked! You have to take the two screws out of the brew group, remove the spring and a little clear plastic ball. Then clean out the hole thoroughly. I stuck a toothpick up into it from underneath to clean out the coffee that was stuck in the hole. I then put it back together and now it works perfectly.

It could be that the lower valve in the pump is stuck. The Vienna contains an ULKA EX5 reciprocating positive displacement pump. The lower valve has a rubber stopper that can get stuck against the brass pump housing. This web page is a very useful resource:

No water/steam coming out of wand

hi there,
do you hear the pump running when you ask for water or steam? You should hear the pump continuously when you ask for hot water, and intermittently when the steam is dispensed.
No hot water or no steam could come from many causes:
valve not working or not actuated (control board), and also the switch that closes when the water knob is turned may be defective.
Do you hear that switch clicking when you open the water knob?
Difficult to help further with so little behaviour information.
Good luck,

Saeco vienna super automatica coffe maker produces very little coffee and it comes out very slow.

sounds like your pump. When you turn steam knob on, you should hear the pump go bump, bump, bump. When hot water is turned on, you should hear pump run steady.

Hi. Sounds like a blocked or jammed brew unit. Remove brew unit and clean. To properly do this, you need to disassemble the brew unit. Canbe quite hard to do. The brew units are usually held together with plastic tabs, and may have to remove some screws to allow these tabs to release units assembly. Dazza REPAIRER

On my saeco vienna machine i hear the pump working but no water is coming through

Any water leaks following the pumping sound ?

If there is no leaks, I would try to get some hot water from the wand.

If there is still no water coming out, I would:

1-Decalcify thoroughly

2-Open the machine and take the inside out and verify the status of the water pipes going from the water tank to the boiler than to the wand and the brew unit ... to make sure there is no restriction.

3-Replace water pump

Saeco Vienna Superautomatica will not make a full cup of coffee

I'm wondering if you had any luck solving this? After 3 years of great coffee, my machine is only making a 1/4 cup or so. All parts are clean. I'm guessing something on the circuit board that the dial is attached to....thanks!

Resover leaking

The easy fix for leaking under the machine is check to see if the drain is clogged. Open the front and remove the brew unit. You will see a small hole that will drain the excess into the Plastic tray. Usualy I find Coffee grounds clogging the drain hole. Use Pipe Cleaner , Q-Tip to clear the drain hole. you can also wipe out from the other side with paper towel or Q-tips. once the clog is clear. Flush our with water.

Trouble with Saeco Vienna Deluxe

Could be the pump gone bad or the flow meter.

Neither is easy to replace. Needs to be brought in for fixing.
