Question about GE Ovens

1 Answer

I have an old GE electric oven that came with a home I purchased in 1997. The oven could be over 20 years old. Its model JMS27GJ. One of the heating elements on the stove top won't stay at the temperature its set at. If set on low it might warm up to hot after 5 minutes of sometimes it will suddenly heat up to very high after 30 minutes all by itself. Many meals and pots have been burned as a result. The problem is it often gets much hotter than the setting its on - but this happens irregularly.

The thermostat is a copper tube looking device mounted inside the oven cavity

from the serial # it was made in september the second letter N is either 1956 or 1972.
take a look at this site it'll lead you to ge heating elements
see if there is one that resembles your's.
then call them. they are very helpful and may be able to tell you where the model # is. ask if what you're seeing might fit.

Receiving F3 Code

HI, no need to replace the unit at this time. this is a Open or shorted oven temperature sensor (RTD).

Check sensor harness and harness connection between oven sensor and oven control. Replace oven temperature sensor (RTD) if wiring is ok.

I have a GE Single Wall electric oven.(JTP25SOH2) The heating elements just stop getting hot. unit is about 4 years old purchased brand new. first the broiler stop getting hot then the baking heating...

First your broiler heating element may have gone bad and now you oven heating element may have gone bad. Using an OHM meter disconnect them and test for their value.Full scale on the meter means it is shorted. No meter movement means that it is open.Eitehr means to obtain a new element(s) and replace it/them.
