I want to connect my lap top to a wireless Netgear

You need to do exactly that.

From your web browser type in put in you user name and password.

Your control panel will come up then you got to wireless settings and turn it on and set a Wep key, write that down then rebboot the router or save the settings.

go to your lappy now and open up your wireless card on the tak bar and search for your netgear click on it then enter that key, You should be good.

Thanks please do leave ratings for all the tech involed in your case, thanks

For some reason our lap top is not able to pick up wifi from our netgear.

Lots of reasons are possible.
A) Operating System
1) wireless adapter is disabled by your OS

B) Router settings -- you have to access the web page interface for the router ( usually or similar address)

1) check Wireless settings. Do you have the router broadcasting the ESSID and channel ? Make sure you have enabled the radio broadcast.

2) Is the Access control list box checked?

If so, look to see what MAC addresses are included. Maybe the MAC address of your laptop needs to be stored there if you are limiting who can connect.

3) Check security -- If you have WEP or WAP enabled, make sure that the password is what your laptop is using. It's also important that the number of bits (usually 64, 128) set there is the same as the laptop uses.

4) check Schedule -- make sure that someone hasn't blocked access based on the time of day that you are trying to use your laptop to get to the internet.

C) Router location. If the router is setting on the floor or surrounded by lots of metal barriers or too distant from the laptop, then you'll have trouble. Try these one at a time to see if the laptop can tune in the radio.

D) Pure heart? Not having a pure heart can lead to lots of nasty disappointments.

Stronger Wireless Signal with 2701HGB Router?

Netgear's web site has an excellent tutorial on how to do this. It involves turning off the DHCP on the Netgear, and linking the LAN prots of the two routers. There is no connection to the WAN port of the Netgear.

Here's the link

Question on setting up two computers

Yes, I have pretty much the same setup at home. Wired desktop and wireless laptop. On the back of your wireless router, there should be 4 or 5 wired connections which you can use. You will only have to use the setup disk on one computer. Basically, the setup disk is for the router, not the computers, it simply guides you through the router configuration process. You can also do this manually, the manual for the router will give those instructions as well.
