Question about Sony FD Trinitron WEGA KV-36HS510 36" TV

Disable or turn 16:9 Enhancement off??

I have a KV-36HS510 recently purchased the tv picture is awesome I love the set. The only problem well not a problem but i was wondering if it is a to disable or turn 16:9 Enhancement off?? When watching dvd's i have no problems but when i am watching a hd broadcast that is already wide screen it shrinks it even more. I had a 4:3 ratio hd tv before and i could change set up on cable box to make hd signal full screen but the 16:9 Enhancement always kicks in the only options i see is auto or on not off.
Comment by BlackSoprano, posted on Dec 03, 2007 I will double check again thanks for the tip/info. I looked in the manual but i didnt see now when I open the menu on the actual tv set i see auto and i also see on but no off seems kinda wierd.
Comment by BlackSoprano, posted on Dec 03, 2007 i am in front of the tv w/ menu up auto & on are my only option, lol its not a big deal the tv is great and when watching movies it doesnt do it but i highlight on and still do not see and off option
Comment by BlackSoprano, posted on Dec 12, 2007 it goes auto to on the on to nothing!! i really need this off

I did look i dont see the button i have another tv that as a "aspect" button i know what u are talking about this remote does not have it man i have been trying everything this 16:9 enhancement is killing me i just want to turn it off, lol

some dvd's u can some u cant my main problem is "16:9 Enhancement Mode" if the tv is getting a signal higher than 480p (i.e. 420p or 1080i) it super shrinks the screen thee dvd, hd dvd, or blue ray is widescreen in the 16:9 ratio thats not the problem the problem is the tv doing a auto 16:9 enhancement on a ratio that is already 16:9 if i am watching hdtv via the cable box its not as bad because the hd signal is put to 16:9 once not twice its like two black lines at the top two at the bottom instead of the normal one bar at top and bottom i hope i am making since my main one and only question is "how to Disable or turn 16:9 Enhancement off?" please help.

Hi have you got a button on the tvs remote that should change it like widescreen button you probably have looked but i am looking for manuall for your controll.
Usually its a button on the tv controll and should change it without acessing the menu option.
On most controlls it is labelled with exp for expand this should change the view from auto, 4:3, 16:9 have a look on controll for exp or sometimes labelled 16:9.
If you have manuall that list controll functions look and see if you can find it.
But it might just be that the telly dont give you this option.
Ill have a look and see if i can see manuall for your controll ill post back when i find anything ok let me know how you get on

Hi from what i can make out on the control manual is that the only picture setting you can alter is selecting sport mode or other settings is the 5th button down on the left hand side of the remote from the top of controll.
As far as i can tell this is the only settings you can change using the control but i will keep looking for you and see if their is anything else you can do.
But if their isnt im sure you dont mind that much anyway but i know what you mean it is a bit annoying let me know how you get on ok

Hi cant you alter the aspect in the dvds menu as sometimes this is possible to do this way.
I looked through the whole manual for your controll and it doesnt list anything about changing the aspect their is nothing else mentioned in the manuall.
Just see if you can change the setting on the dvd setup menus you might be lucky and be able to do it that way,
let me know how you get on ok

16:9 Enhancement (KV-36HS510) HELP!!

There is a hidden setup on cable box.  Search manual on box.  I have the same TV with a Scientific Atlanta HD DVR.  If you turn off the cable box and hold the Guide + Info Buttons down, it will go into supported resolution setup.  My TV now goes to the appropriate resolution (480i, 720p or 1080i) what ever the channel is broadcasting.
