Nope! The internal battery is not plugged-in correctly. Unplug the APC unit and open the access door to the battery (it is not dangerous to do).
Re-seat the two wire clips (red & black) to the battery. The positive post has a red mark on it.
Close it up and charge for a few hours before using.
If the symptoms continue, return unit to store.
Next time READ the manual, those things aren't shipped ready to run, the battery has to be connected first.
Glad to hear that!! So many times people don't even look at the information furnished with what they buy. Hope I didn't "torque your jaw", I only want those that DON'T read first to start.
Not often are new units defective but you got a good solution from the supplier and hope you have good luck with the unit. Mine come from the junk yard of eBay's used electronics and get external battery packs for long, long, long standby power.

In fact, I read the manual before taking the unit from the shipping box. Connected the battery as described in the manual. Later, rechecked the battery connections, both appeared to be fine. Returned unit today, per last tech advice, and was told that the unit was defective based on what it did (and didn't do).
