Hopefully your other OS's are on a different drive letter (d: or e: for example). As long as they are then there is no conflict with XP.

You could effectively remove access to them by editing c:\BOOT.INI . Note that you will have to right click boot.ini, select "properties" and remove the "read only" and "hidden" properties for the file before editing it. I would recommend making a copy of the boot.ini first for a backup.

Then just open it with notepad. There will be one line for each OS in there. just delete the extra lines. Then you can just erase or format the partitions for the other OS's.

I installed two new 1 gigabyte memory sticks into a Dell Inspiron 6000, which previously only had 2 256 megabyte memory sticks installed. When I first installed the 2 gigs of new memory, the laptop turned...

Once you installed the memory, did you enter into the System BIOS Setup screen? Do this and verify that the system recognizes the newly installed 2GB RAM. This should let the system access the new memory once you boot.

no, it wont. Dell notebooks have proprietary components and configurations, and using another motherboard will not work, it wont fit, it wont interface with the connections, and it wont make you happy. If you want to get a gaming machine, buy an alienware device, or, (if you wanna get out a little cheaper) go to the Dell outlet, and get a refurbished Dell Studio XP. you can get one with a 2200 64 bit dual core CPU, 4 gigs ram, and 320 gig hdd for about $620 after fees etc.

Have a dell latop p2 400 with 12 gig hd . hd l think is bust have got a 8o gig to put in place of it .but laptop will not startup. **** with thanks

Your 80GB hard drive does not have an Operating System installed.

You'll either need to buy an Operating System Installer disk from a website such as this one (Operating System are located in the category Software>Operating Systems), or ask someone who has an Operating System Installer disk to install your Operating System of choice.

Just know that the hardware within your computer MUST be compatible with your Operating System of choice and that you MUST have the system resources to support your OS choice.

You can do it by yourself. Download driver magician and backup the drivers on a jumpdrive or memory stick. Then run the windows XP or vista that came with you pc, laptop. After you install windows go to: control panel-->System-->Hardware tab--> Device Manager and install the drivers of all device that have the exclamation or question mark. Anyway if you dont want to do it. You will pay for that job $70-$150.
