Question about Epson Stylus Color 460 InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Printer won't print

My Epson stylus 460 has stopped printinting. When switched on, the print head moves and then goes back to its rest position and stops. All 4 lights in front start flashing and do not go off until printer is switched off. The paper does not even move. There is no paper jam.

What's the problem and how do i get my printer to work again.

Re: Printer won't print

You may have to realign the paper feed sensor. I knocked mine off and got the same results. Just push it back into place.

Turn on your printer, as soon as the carriage moves out of it's resting position quickly unplugged the printer, the carriage should stop in a postion that you could move it freely by hand. Just position it by hand where you can remove the cartridge and put it back correctly. When your done just gently push the carriage back to it's resting position then put the plug in and turn it on.

A child moved the head in my Epson Stylus Printer

Turn the printer off -- listen for noise as the head should move to its "parking" position.

Turn the printer on, and listen for noise.

If none, then the mechanics that move the head are broken.

Is the printer still under manufacturer's warranty -- although the warranty may _not_ cover child-inflicted breakage.

Ink jam in Epson 2200 printer

First try to print something. You never know it might work. Also you might try very carefully applying a small amount of sewing machine oil on the bar the print head is attached to then again very carefully and slowly move the head back and forth along the bar. It might just be that the bar is dirty and dry and needs a little bit of lubrication.

I cannot remember if the Status Monitor (SM) of the 810 has a "change cartridge" facility, but it's easy to check. Right click the printer icon in the bottom right-hand corner of the screen and select printer settings. Then click the maintenance tab - is "change cartridge" one of the options? If so, use it. If it isn't you can download the SSC utility from

and use this to move the cartridge to the cartridge change position - don't forget to use it to do an ink charge cycle after you have replaced the cartridge.

There is also the "generic" approach. Turn the printer on, and as soon as the print head starts to move, pull the power lead out of the printer, or turn it off at the mains. The print head should now be free to move (gently!) by hand to the cartridge change position. The snag here is there is no inherent means of running an ink charge cycle - do a couple of head clean cycles instead.

unless the head come to a halt during initialization process, upon turning on your printer there is no way you will be able to print, please check for any obstruction on the printer head, the grinding sound is an indicator that the head is trying to reach its position and was having trouble. or it could be a damaged belt that you need to replaced

Printer cartridge problem

I have a 440 and have had the same problem. Of course, I have been using cartridges from Printpal, Inkgrabber, etc. that are not official Epson. I have found that it takes several cleanings and after the cartridge has been in the position for the ink to go down it will start. My last order from Printpal said to set all the cartridges in the position they are in when installed in the printer for several days prior to installation. Of course, every cleaning of the print head uses up more of your ink. You don't have much choice though.

Black ink

I had a similar problem with the r320 epson
I found that it had blocked.

this works well to clear the head
1 switch on the printer with the cover open
2 as the cartridge head moves away from its docked position pull the mains plug.
3it is then possible to slide the head to the left .
4 there is a square of flet on the right the head would normally be over, add a squirt of mr muscle bathroom cleaner on the pad ( main off)
5plug the printer back in and the head will return the the docked position.
6 leave for and hour or 6 then try to print
