Question about Fuji FinePix S5000 Digital Camera

Can't download pics from camera

I'm trying to download my pictures from my camera to my computer. It won't download. It says there are no files to download, but they're all still on there. I've had this problem one other time, but I don't remember what I did to get it to work. I've restarted my computer. I've put new batteries in the camera. I've unplugged and replugged the USB cord, but to no avail.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the finepix software. I checked the USB port and there are no yellow exclamation points. There is, however, a yellow exclamation point on my PCI serial port. I tried to upgrade the driver, but it said it couldn't find one to install. Not sure what that's for or if it has any bearing on downloading pictures. We've downloaded pictures the same way for 4 years and now this happens.

You mentioned checking to see if my camera was set to upload. What would I look for to make sure that setting hadn't been changed? I'm not doing anything different to upload my pictures from the camera, but maybe a button has been pushed or a setting changed and I'm not aware of it. Thanks for your help!

Still can't get this to work. Doesn't do anything when I completely uninstall the software. When I originally tried, four pictures actually downloaded and then the rest are still on my memory card. The Fine Pix software says there's nothing in the camera. When I check the hardware, I do get some sort of error for the PCI Serial port. (says it's not installed). But when I try to search for an upgrade, it won't upgrade or download. I don't know what this port is or if it's anything that has to do with getting pics off a camera. I haven't tried a new USB yet. Just trying to rule everything else out.

The simple answer is to use and independant card reader and not the camera- It at least will save battery drain.
Coming back to the problem
Check the camera - is it set to upload?
Now check the Computer
Start /Control Pane/ system/Hardware/Device Manager
How do the USB's look?
Any yellow error marks?
Click on the USB symbol/ Driver/ Reload.

I have downloaded the software and it still won't let me put pic on computer

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program such as Picasa.
