Question about Typewriters

Paper advance I have an eletric typewriter-- pwp 145 while it types, the paper does not advance if you hit return or use the demo mode, everything is typed on the same line. the roller spins freely, there seems to be no catch or click I don't know if my old type writer is broken or just needs to have a lever switched.

Re: paper advance

The paper release lever may be in the release mode. try holding the left platen knob and pulling lightly on the paper is should not allow the paper to move freely, if it is ok try holding the left knob and turning the right knob in the direction you would to turn the paper in it may have come loose if so turn it all the way back in do not over tighten it your machine does not click when the platen is turned it uses electronics to hold the platen on line.

I've hit a wrong key and now it won't print what I am typing it just moves along the line

Just hit the mode key until TYPE, on the display, is highlighted. There are 3 modes, TYPE (where the machine functions like a normal typewriter), L/L (Where what you are typing shows up in the display and then prints when you hit the "RETURN" button. You can make corrections, in this mode, before you print the line, which saves using your correction tape.) and STORE (which is used to store memory information, such as format and phrases.)

Why does paper not advance to next line when carriage returns?

There might be a setting for how many lines it moves when the carriage gets to the end. It is mechanical so you'll see it!

The paper doesn't advance when I hit the return button on my Royal Alpha 2001 typewritter. How do I get it to advance the paper? I have not used it in years.

I'm going out on a limb here.
I assume the carriage returns but the line does not advance. Close?

- There is a setting for the linespacing which is either 0 (zero), or 1, or 1 1/2 or 2
Likely, this has been inadvertently moved.

- Also, there is a way of disengaging the linespace mechanism to allow typing to be made on unevenly space forms. This might have been moved.

Please feel free to contact me anytime.

I am trying to type on labels but I cannot get the typewriter to grab the paper, so I keep typing on top of the same letters. When I hit return, the paper moves with the typing part.

If it works on paper Then take a pice of 150 grit sandpaper and remove the glaze on the platen. After you will have to wipe the platen to get the black dust off.

Someone used the typewriter and hit some code in error.

If it is in the delay print mode it will print when you hit ret. If this is not the case you probably need a print solenoid cap, they are available but a little tricky to install.
