Question about Sansui VRDVD4005 DVD Player/VCR

1 Answer

Sansui vhs/dvd While recording a vhs to dvd it gets about 20 min into it and then flashes a message on the screen that the vhs (HOME VIDEO) is right protected or something to that affect. This is a home video that can be recorded on and played with no problem. I atempted three different tapes and get the same message about 20 min into it and it will not let me go any further. Just got this Toshiba DVR620KU and need to record from home movie VHS to DVD. Have DVD-R, I have set the time, have it on the program VHS to DVD, I start the VHS, put it on pause. Go DVD, select rec...

Good one!

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Only things I can think of are:

- Make sure the disc is a blank one.
- Try a different disc.
- Make sure the tape you are trying to dub is not encoded with Macrovision copyguarding. If it is a home-made recording then you are OK, but a factory recording on a store bought tape may cause some difficulties.

If you are still having troubles try a complete 15 minute reset by unplugging from the power source.

Good luck!

Cannot format a dvd-rw disc or record to the disc.

Unless you posted this question in the wrong category, you can't use the Sansui VRDVD4000 to record to DVD. It is a DVD player only, not a DVD burner. It will play and record VHS tapes, but with DVDs it will only play them.

To record to a DVD, you would need a DVD burner. Many modern computers include a DVD burner, so maybe either your computer or someone you know's computer has a DVD burner.

Panasonic DMR-E55 Won't Let me Record my own VHS

This is probably caused by an irregular magnetic encoding pattern being generated by the tape itself. If the DVD recorder does not fully recognise the code, it may incorrectly interpret it as copy protected. If there is any tape flutter or there are tape edits, these can contribute to the problem. In addition to this magnetic imprinting can occur on old tapes that have been stored for a number of years without being spooled. basically wrong bits of the tape get magnetised. You can sometimes hear an echo on old tape recordings caused by imprinting.

You could try the following:

1) If available, try using a different video machine to play back and record from.

2) Whatever video machine you use, put your tape in, fully fast forward and rewind a couple of times, then try your recording again. This is particularly important if you haven't used the tape for some time.

3) If it fails again, check to see if it always fails at the same point.

4) If it does, try winding forward a little and then try to resume recording.

5) If you can record it means that a short section of tape is giving a spurious code to your dvd recorder and confusing it.

6) Use a re-recordable dvdrw to make a master. You won't keep wasting discs if the recording stops. You will also be able to produce another dvd from your master and edit it if your recording ends up in a number of segments.

7) Always use the highest quality setting possible when producing a master.

8) If all else fails, if you have a friend with another dvd recorder, maybe try that.

Have fun....

Unable to read on computers

I would just get a USB video capture device. This will connect to the USB port on your computer and will connect to the video and audio out on your VCR. Basically you will be recording your VHS tape with your computer so it will be on your computer in the proper format. This will eliminate the frustration you have been having with unrecognizable formats. These devices come with there own software and its pretty simply to use. I also see that the price has come down on these devices. I bought one a year ago and was around $ 70. Now you can find one for around $ 20. Here is a link which has a bunch of them for sale.

I hope I have been of some help.

Transfering vhs to dvd

Is the vhs tape copy protected? I think you can only copy your own vhs tapes or what you record on tv. I could be wrong though.
