Re: a75 s-229

The DVD player could be defective. If it is not seen in the device manager within Windows, then it is not being seen at all by the Operating System.

Check your connections to the DVD drive. On many laptops, the DVD can easily be removed and reinserted.

Usually these buttons only operate when the Toshiba software is fully installed. Check whether you do have the Toshiba Initial CD and try installing all there programms in terms of media .

I just replaced my original CD/DVD ROM with a Toshiba SD-R2512 CD-RW/DVD ROM in my 1805-S253 running Windows ME. I used "Roxio Easy CD Creator" for writing to CD's. Everything was "plug'n'play" except the bezel that came with the new drive had to be swapped out. Windows ME recognized the new drive immediately and I didn't have to load any new drivers. This upgrade will probably work on other 1800 or 1805 Satellite series machines.

Xp driver

You can download any/all the Windows XP device drivers for your model laptop from the Toshiba WEB site from their download page.
Make sure you enter the model of your laptop so you can get the correct drivers.

CD/DVD player not working

You have done all the things to try and get the CD drive to work, but it looks like your CD/DVD drive has died.
Best thing is to get another CD/DVD drive, make sure the connector on the drive is the same as your old one.
You need an operating CD/DVD drive to install Windows, unless you can get the BIOS or F12 to boot up from the USB port. The USB stick needs to hold all the Windows files.
But then sometime you need a working CD/DVD drive.

If you cannot see the speaker icon in the taskbar, click on Start > Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices and tick place icon in the taskbar. That's if a driver has been installed for your sound device which is a creative sounblaster I think.

Toshiba Satellite A75-S206 DVD\CD-RW drive problem

Hello GeneMat,

I am Romeet,i will try and help you with this problem.Seems it could be an issue with the Combo DVD Drive's Driver Software or Firmware.

Try This:

From your Desktop:

Right Click " My Computer" Icon and select "Properties"

Go to "Hardware" Tab and select "Device Manager"

Under Device Manager, scroll down to the "DVD/CDROM Drives" menu and click on the plus ( + ) Sign next to it

Right Click the Drive name eg " Toshiba DVD-R TSST 2313" and select " Uninstall" Click yes to any prompts and restart your Laptop.

After rebooting, Windows XP should pick up the drivers again, so wait a while for it to complete and until it notifies you that " Windows successfully completed installing your new hardware" or something to that effect and then try using the software cds again

Best of luck!

cutemah, Is your cd/dvd internal or usb? Have you tried to login using safemode? When the first Toshiba screen appears press the F8 key. Choose safe mode. Since you say the cd/dvd isn't being recognized that too may be the problem. Try removing the cd/dvd player and see if the machine starts. Is the error code only 0x57 or is there more? It is sounding more hardware related than software related. What program are you using to format the hard drive? Send me a little more information please. Let me know what happens. Good Luck, Tim
