It says security because of an issue with the passkey1 antitheft system. the ignition key has a resistor built into it. when you insert it into the ignition there are 2 contacts on each side of it. there are 15 different codes or resistor numbers it must meet. if it doesn't find the correct number, it will set off the scurity code and disengage the starting circuit...
The best thing to do right now is run a self diagnostic check to extract the trouble codes.
On these cars, no extra equipment is needed as it is all built in.
To check for diagnostic trouble codes do the following.
Turn ignition to "ON." (do not start the car).
Depress the "OFF" and "WARMER" buttons on the Climate Control Center (CCC) simultaneously and hold until the segment check appears on the Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC).
After entering On-Board Diagnostics, a segment check is automatically performed and then any trouble code stored in computer memory will be displayed. Codes may be stored for the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC), Air Conditioning Programer (ACP), Supplemental Inflatable Restraint (SIR) Traction Control System (TCS) or Road Sensing Suspension (RSS) systems.
Each trouble code consists of the system abbreviation: (E: Engine), (P: PCM), (I: IPC), (A: ACP), (R: SIR), (T: TCS), (S: RSS), a three digit code identifier, and the letter C or H. All codes for each system are displayed together, in the order of their three digit number (lowest first). The final digit of the code, a "C" or "H" is used to indicate whether the code is Current or History. A "C" means the fault was still present the last time the diagnostic test was run, while "H" means the failure was not present the last time the code was tested for.
Write down the codes as they are displayed, you may need to run the check several times because they can flash by pretty quickly so you may miss some.
post the codes on here so we can get some idea of what the problem might be. Then you can go to your mechanic armed with this knowledge.
Hey i have 1994 Cadillac Sedan Deville and I was wondering if anyone knows what the number 3 on the dash means. the other morning , the dash read 'get vehicle serviced soon, followed by the number 3'. i presumed that this must indicate the problem area with car. also the 'service engine soon' light went on before i left for a long journey but went out a few minutes later and i havnt seen it since. another thing ive noticed was the number 46 on dash when i put car in neutral if i parked, followed by the words 'apply break to shift', does this number 46 indicate something. any help is much appreciated . cheers
