Do one thing, if possible of course. Download any Linux distro and create a bootable USB or DVD/CD with the distro, Once that is all set, have your laptop to boot from the USB port, reboot the laptop with the USB already connected. Once booted, click on Live disk or Try before installing, this won't change anything the HDD so there is nothing to worry about. While testing the live disk, connect the charger or power supply to the laptop with the lid open to see if it charges. If it does, then it's a problem with Windows it self. Right now is kind of hard to explain since I'm not on a Windows machines now. But do try it.
As the on off led blinks there is apossibility of loose contact with battery contacts terminals. First remove the battery then reinsert it in the laptop and connect it properly to the power adapter check whether its charging indicator turns on then switch on the computer
Chris, The reason the gogear shuts down is the battery needs charging. The lead that was supplied when new, was fitted with three plugs on it, one went into a power outlet (AC) one plugged into the base of the player, the last one (USB) into your P.C.
You should also have a CD with Philips device manager on, this needs downloading to your laptop, Windows media player version 10. is the only version Philips recomend for up / downloading music to the player.
may be ur pc windows has problem....i have also same problem for so many days when i connect it with my pc it doesnt show anything then i changed my windows then i connect it it shows samsung portable device in "my computer"...then enjoy with ur uploading
I had this same problem. What I ended up doing was going into My Computer into the device itself and seeing what showed up. It appears a few new songs I popped on there the day after were appearing but nothing else. I deleted all the files, unplugged it from the computer and let the library update, old songs were still playing. Plugged it back into the machine and voila they showed up.
It is most likely that there was nothing wrong with the original adapter/charger. What I suspect is there could very well be a loose connection more aptly a cold solder among the pins of the power jack that is soldered to the motherboard. Normally, this jack would have two (2) pins and your description "...unless the cord was in a certain position..." indicates that one or both pins are not connecting right to the motherboard solder points.
It is relatively easy to resolder the said pins. What would be more challenging would be opening the laptop and exposing the motherboard's to be able to do solder work underneath.
Should you venture a DIY, then you would be needing a set of jeweler's screwdrivers and a soldering iron and a little lead. Should you be uncomfortable and unfamiliar with electronic works, perhaps your best bet would be to seek the services of a qualified professional.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Plug it into the computer (the cord you would use to charge it and transfer files), and hold down the power button for at least 15 seconds. The Sansa should then begin to turn on and start charging. :)
