i was using maxell disc when i began to use the dvd recorder then i got the incorrect disc.. although some disc work and some don't . i went to a sony disc and it gives me nothing at least the maxell's will read before i get the incorrect disc

Some machines work with -R some with +R. My suggestion is to try a + or - R RW which is rewritable. If you screw it up, no harm done because you can always reformat it and start over again. Don't forget to format the rewritable at the start.
