I have a Toshiba laptop Satellite lAptopC-55-B5298 8.1

On a Windows 8 machine you have two places to put an icon for a program.

1. The start menu on windows 8 which is the first set of icons you see.

2. The Desktop, which is like the Windows 7 desktop and you put a shortcut here.
This is easy to do as you right click with the mouse and pick "new" then "shortcut".
Then pick browse and pick out the program file you want to run when the icon is pressed.
Then press "OK" and it is stored on the desktop.

On the start menu you have to go to the bottom of the icons to the down arrow.
Press the down arrow and it will take you to the "Apps", which is the list of installed program.
Then scroll sideways to the right until you see the program you want on the screen.
Pick the icon of the program you want on the start menu, with the right hand key of the mouse.
On the menu that pops up, pick "pin to start menu", and its done.
You can re-arrange the icons on the start menu by dragging them around with the mouse.

Can you tell me the communication setup for the xl200GPS MEADE 8 inch telescope. Like the comm Port number along with the other settings. Thank You.

If you mean the LX200GPS from Meade, gives the following settings for the AutoStar RS-232 Serial Com Port:
Baud Rate: 9600
Data Bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bit: 1
Flow Control: None has the pin assignments for the 4-pin and 6-pin adapters that connect to the RS232 cable.
Most versions of Windows from WIn95 on will automatically assign the serial port an unused IRQ port if you add a add-on card to a PCI or PCIe slot. (USB to serial port adapters should be able to do something similar with the above data.)

I hope this helps.

Hi Melissa,
Check the batteries in the mouse itself, see that they haven't dislodged in the move, and make sure the mouse can find the sensor from the USB port. Let me know if that works. If not, I'll ask my son, he's a genius when it comes to that, he gave me his old Logi USB mouse cuz my old one failed too..
Hope this helps

Hello, I have this old 'VIRTUAL SNOOKER' game which I would love to be able to play again. It was originaly played on Windows 95/98 and not surprisingly it will not play on Vista or MS-DOS. Is getting an...

There are a few options, you can try running the program as "Administrator", try running in 'compatibility' mode, or try using a virtual machine.
Administrator: HERE is a wonderful how-to on how to do that
Compatibility Mode: Microsoft offers a great explanation and how-to on their site HERE
Virtual Machine: This can be more complicated, as there are many virtual machine options and will require that you have a purchased serial version of Win95/98. Depending on your ethics those can be acquired by using torrents explained HERE
But I will be succinct assuming you have a licensed version of Win95/98 available. My recommended Virtual Machine is Virtual Box, a freely available virtual machine made available by Sun Microsystems.
Navigate to the downloads section at the left of the webpage, chose the appropriate download. When installed, run the program and chose your Win95/98 install disc from your local machine.
Follow the instructions provided by Virtual Box and Windows to get a Virtual Machine running and install your Snooker like normal.
Have fun. Hope this helps. I've done this a few times with success.

What OS are you running? What type of mouse (USB or PS2)? The last time I saw this error, it said the file was for Win95 release B (95 OSR2.1) or later and the mouse was a USB mouse with a USB to PS2 adapter. Since that computer was running Win95a, the mouse didn't work with the computer since OS had no USB support.

If you have Win95, check your OS version number. If it is the later version, you need to enable the USB support. The patch is called usbsupp.exe and should be on the setup disc in the Other folder (<CD-drive>:\Other\USB Folder). Load the disc and double click on the exe. It may be posted on line somewhere but I am not sure of any valid versions (no malware payload).

If you have an earlier version of Win95, only a PS2 mouse will work.

I hope this helps.

I want to know where the red, yellow, blue, green,,white, and black wires go?

red and black are power and ground, blue and white are gps output signal connect those to 9 pin connector pins 2 and 5 and get a 9 pin(serial) cable to usb adapter for input to a laptop, charting or mapping program and you are good to go. just make sure if you are using xp to wait until the mapping program is running and searching for gps signal before you connect the serial or usb because windows thinks the signal is from a mouse and the cursor will turn into a raging crackhead jumping all over the screen and randomly clicking on whatever it touches.

I have a Husqvarna 1250/Viking 1+ that my aunt recently gave me when she upgraded machines. I have installed the Customizing 95 (version 1.31) software on my laptop and it works fine. However, I can not...

1. Did the software come with a dongle? This is a "key" that looks like a memory stick, that is actually a copyright protection device. You cannot access the program without it. To get the program to recognize it. plug it into a free USB Port, then power up your computer. It will read the dongle as a new device and install it on your computer. Always make sure the dongle is plugged into the same USB port as when its installation.

2. Check the operating system compatibility of your embroidery software and your computer.

What is your computer's OS? If you have Vista, it will not read Win95-XP. In that case, you may need to find a used computer to dedicate to your embroidery and install Win 98. I have XP 2000 and it reads all the Win programs back through 95.

My Husqvarna Rose/3D Embroidery Studio, will not operate with the Vista program. It will run on XP, because XP is backward compatible to previous Windows programs.

If this is the problem, you can still purchase older Windows programs very affordably. Before installing it on your hard drive, I would get expert instructions from a professional, who would back up your hard drive. I've also heard of people partitioning their hard drives, so that they could use more than one operating system.

(This is MUCH CHEAPER than purchasing a new machine and all the software, etc to go with.)

Just a note: The small notebooks they've come out with, do not have the proper drive to run your embroidery program.

3. If you have the reader'writer that came with the machine and no serial port on your computer or printer, you can take the box to your local Radio Shack or computer repair, where you can get an adapter with a serial plug on one end and a USB plug on the other, or get the "Ultimate Box Plus". The adapter is cheaper.

One, or all, of these little tidbits may fit your problem.

Hope this helps.

The Mouse will plug into a serial ( com port ) if it's an older serial mouse.

( You'll want to put the mouse on serial port 2 )
/ in case you have an internal modem sitting on com 1 or 3 and taking up IRQ4 which would conflict with the mouse /
/ or in case of modem being on come 2 or 4 and using IRQ3 , just move the mouse over to com 1 /

Or the green colored PS/2 port if it's a PS/2 type mouse.

Thank you for using FixYa!
