Get the latest version of the software:
www.usasupport.philips.com
Enter your model number
On the next page, click on your exact model number without the "B" on the end
On the next page, click on "software and drivers"

Then:
Make sure you back up all songs on the GoGear before attempting this solution.

1) Back up all files on the GoGear
2) Open up Philips Device Manager (Start --> All Programs --> Philips)
3) Click on the Repair Tab, and look for a msg that says connect the player while holding the volume + button
4) Disconnect the GoGear from the computer and turn the GoGear off - hold in the volume + button and continue to hold it as you reconnect the GoGear to the computer; after holding the volume + button for up to 20 or 30 seconds, a window will open up saying that your device is being repaired (now you can let go of the volume + button); after the repair is successfully complete, your GoGear will be good as new

Now you can do the firmware upgrade that will prevent this problem from occuring in the future. Open up Philips Device Manager and click the Update tab. This problem was caused because most GoGear's were designed for Windows XP with Media Player 10 (which is no longer the latest standard).

There are no clear insructions on hom to download music onto themp4 only pictures which i can t make any sense of. i ve never used one of these before so need step by step insructions

Ok, there are two ways to put music into your player.
You can either use Drag and drop or use windows media payer version 11 to transfer music to your player.

Drag and drop:
  • Connect your player to your PC. It will load automatically. Select Open device to view files.
  • If the folder of your player does not appear, double click My Computer at the desktop and you will find an icon for your player. Double click that icon.
  • Select the music files you want to transfer in your local directory on your computer.
  • Drag the selected files to the particular folder of your player (E.g. Music file on your player) by holding the left button of the mouse and releasing it.
Here is the link to Sync with Window Media Player 11

www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/knowledgecenter/howto/mp11/sync.aspx

For DRM protected songs or those purchased from internet use Rhapsody

Hope this helps..

This could be because your software isn't compatible for Windows Vista.

I've looked on Philips site for any software for that mp3 player and campatible with Vista, but i had no luck.

Have you tryed connecting it to your computer and using Windows Media Player 10 or 11 to add your songs. If now and you want to try go to Media Player 10 or 11 which ever you have if you haven't got a latest version download here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/11/default.aspx

When you've successfully installed media player 11 you've opened media player 11 at the top click on the link called "Sync" once you've done that if your mp3 players been connnected it sshould show a little mp3 player in the top right of the pane.

Now to add music yu simply drag and drop the music you want on your mp3 player to where it says "Drag items here" once you've done that just click on "Start Snyc" at the bottom.

Good luck. Hope my solution was helpful in some way. Further problems just leave a comment on this page and i will get back to you a.s.a.p.

How do i put photos on?

There is a folder that can be seen in Explorer. For example:

My Computer\Philips HDD63XX GoGear\Media\Pictures

But transferring files this way is futile. There's something about the media player 10 sync process that updates a database on the mp3 player. Media Player 11 doesn't seem to do this correctly. Philips needs to resolve this as new machines are not shipping with version 10 anymore.

Phillips gogear

Alright, I haven't fully tested this out yet because I have Windows Media Player 11, so I'd have to do alot to get testing.. Any way, seems simple enough.. I'm not sure if it works. But, it's from the Philips site. So, maybe it does. Just follow the instructions on the page. Hope it helps.
