PS2 When the disk is put into the system, it does not spin. I tried blowing off the laser/lens, but it did not help.

the thing that spins the disc only spins for a short time and when it does spin for a short time the screen says reading disc and then says no data. I tried spinning the thing that spins the game disc.

You might need to have the post replaced... the solution you provided may only work for a little while

There is a plastic post in the "hood" ( top door)of the drive . Normally it comes down and pushes a lever that moves the disc brake out of the way so the disc can spin.
If the post is broken the disc won't spin.

If its broken, you'll find an area on the underside of the hood that looks like there was something ...there.
Below, in the drive area at the back of the disc area, there's a hole where that "post" went.

I made a new post from a plastic pen clip ( the part that clips onto a pocket), cut a section off a pen clip, make it about 1/4 inch long , very flat on one end, make sure it will fit thru that little hole towards the back of the drive area.

Superglue the thing in and Voila'

SOURCE: Disks wont spin on new laser

Did you remove the anti static solder blob (point) on your new laser with a soldering iron and solder wick prior to installing it? The symptons your explaining indicate that point is still intact, If so you will need to carefully remove it first then reinstall the laser and try again.

SOURCE: Disk wont spin

First of all the new laser lens will not allow your Slim to read NTSC UC games if you have a PAL european Console.

There is no reason the New laser should have not read the disc unless it Came to you damaged. It sounds like you know how to replace a laser.

Doesnt do anything

Try blowing on the little disk reader first, then try wiping the disk reader with a clean cotton shirt. Put the disk in, and listen if the disk spins, if it doesn't it can be one of 2 things.
-if disk doesn't spin
1) the sensor that sensors whether the latch is open(check youtube for bypass)
2)the spin motor is broke (throw out the ps2, and get a new 1)

PS2 Slim New Lens, Not Spinning

Hi guys,
Well, there is 2 switch. one at  the back left of the cd tray and one one the reset /power switch. both sitch have to be close in order for the disk to spin.
If you try this dont forget to put a disk on the spindle as you will start the laser. this is for your safety. then, if the disk does not spin, then you can try replacing the laser. or at least verify the ribbon cable that is hook to it. if the ribbon cable is not well inside the plug the laser might move but again the disk won t spin.
it is related to each other, the PS2 seem to verify the laser prior to start the spindle so what ever happend to the laser affect the spindle.
and then, if you buy a new laser lens, don't forget to remove the soldering bridge. it is a small ball that is use to avoid static while shiping the lens.
most of the seller will include a small peace of paper with procedure and also there is web site with picture of this soldering bridge.
I replace some of them, and I have to say that the small plastic lock for the ribbon  cable to the lens has been an issue and the soldering bridge another one.
but I got most of the PS2 back and running by replacing the laser.
I hope this will help you.
