Question about Kenmore 22812 Bagged Canister Vacuum

1 Answer

Won't turn on after flipping over

I tugged on the canister, and as usual, the thing flipped over, but this time it shut off and would not turn on.

On closer inspection, the 360 swivel head's power "piece" was cracked (the part that slid into the canister itself on the hose), and could not be repaired. Since this has electric "fingers" on it so the switch on the handle works, I replaced.

However, it still won't turn on. Is there a fuse in the canister?

    I figured it out.

When you take apart the vacuum, the handle switch basically just switches the "hot" to the motor. However, it does goes through what looks like a "choke" of some type. The net effect is that when you slide the switch the motor is energized.

It's so simple, how could it break?

Anyway, I tested continuity to the switch, and it appear to be working fine.

So I bypassed everything, and powered the motor directly. It ran. Good sign.

So it had to be either the "choke" or ???

Well, I looked at the ground to the motor, and the wire has a shrink wrap tube on it. So I tested continuity of that wire, and... no continuity. I took the plastic wrap off and there's a fuse in there.

My theory is that when the swivel was damaged, it shorted the leads, and blew the fuse to protect the motor.

So I suppose I could just get another slow-blow fuse, if sears doesn't have the wire/fuse in stock.

The answer is, "yes, there is a fuse in the canister".

    Hope this helps somebody else.

I realized the other thing I couldn't identify is a relay.

My model 116.22812, although it's working now after replacing the swivel and putting in a fuse holder/new fuse.

    Thanks.

Rug shampoo machine keeps blowing breakers now will not power on

It sounds like you have a dead short. Check the wire, it quite often will break at the point that it comes out of the machine. The power is going straight back to the panel before it gets to the motor and that flips the breaker. It probably needs the whole wire replaced. If you can take it apart, check with an ohm meter to see which wire it broken. Do not have it plugged in while doing this.

Dear Technician, I have a problem with my cord to retract back in the canister vac. Would you please help with this problem solution. ...

Try tilting the vacuum so the front is at about a 75-90 degree angle to the back. Gently tug and release cord. This will usually retract the cord.

The power chord on the 2100 electrolux will not retract

Try standing the vacuum on end, or at a near vertical position, and gently tugging on the cord a few times. This will usually cause it to retract. The problem is usually caused by pulling the cord out too far. Avoid doing this as it can result in disconnecting or breaking terminals and/or wiring.

Electrolux #1521 Canister Vacuum won't stay closed

hi from uk your problem with the canister cover/door coming off whilst vaccing ? you have renewed bag ? ok but there is a filter/gauze also inside the canister where bag is fitted if you check inside you should see the filter at opposite end from where bag is secured it is usually fitted behind a slotted pull out plastic gate ? this filter/gauze is to allow air out of canister when vaccing and the filter traps any dust that may accumulate inside the canister case so the dust does not get blown out to atmosphere/rooms SO if this filter is clogged it will not allow vacced air to escape out of canister so result is build up of pressure within cylinder and eventually cover flips open ! so for now you can remove filter/gauze and wash then dry refit this will allow air to escape from canister but still retain dust particles from escaping as it is designed for however may i suggest you replace filter when convenient ? all above is on assuming that the latch on cover is working ok and not now damaged ? hope this helps best wishes

belt could be melted to the motor that spins the brush, try free spinning the brush with your hand to see if the brush spins freely, if it does not the brush bearings could be frozen, or just need a simple new belt...hope this helps
