Nec 2510a won't burn dual layer

am trying to burn downloads onto dual layer format discs.for some reason nero,img burn and clone cd all fail.it doesnt even start the burning process.
it's the first time i've tried to do this sort of project,all other functions work well.ie,4.7 g dvd and cdr burning.
advice would be greatly appreciated.

Apprenticemost nec 2510a's are old and possibly won't know what a dual layer disc is, either update or head to liggy at cd freaks for help
