uninstall all software and driver from nokia including the cable driver. You can uninstall from add and remove program in control panel if you using XP.

Download latest PC suit or OVI from nokia official website. Install it. Restart your phone. Connect your phone with cable to your pc suit. If it still din detect. Run the connection wizard, make sure the the USB cable is tick.

you need to first have your phone connected to the computer using the usb cable provided.

once you plug your phone to the computer, a small pop up balloon will show in the right lower part of your screen which will say 'found new hardware'..click on that balloon and follow the steps to the add new hardware wizard. insert the cd to install the driver and the pc suite for your mobile phone. the pc suite will serve as the go-between for your phone and computer.

if you don't have the cd, you can download the suite from this site, http://www.sonyericsson.com/cws/support/softwaredownloads/w760a?lc=en&cc=ca. If you want more from your phone, go to this site http://www.sonyericsson.com/myphone/wxhtml/myphone/overview?cc=CA&lc=en. It requires registration though.

Go to Device Manager/Ports(Com&LPT) and see what ports BlueTooth had enabled. Use one of this in pc suite settings.
Usualy pc suite use port 40 or 41. Try to enable one of this.
