Nikkon coolpix L1 After downloading memory card .. then putting back into camera. Reading says "cannot read memory card." Checked card out at store verified that it is good. Why does it not work in my...

A couple things you might try.. remove the card carefully and check the position of the "lock" tab. Make sure it is fully in the unlocked position - not locked or a point between the two positions. Reinsert and try again.

It sounds lie you're using a card reader to download the pictures - try formatting the card while in the card reader via computer. The card should be completely empty when the format is complete. You can even try copying files to and from the card to make sure its ok and format again. When complete, try again in camera.

If the problem persists, check to make sure the card is on Nikon approved memory card list for use with the Coolpix L1 (provided below):

The following is a list of approved memory cards for the Coolpix L1 digital still camera. These cards have been tested and approved for use with the Coolpix L1.
The L1 uses SD (Secure Digital) memory. Sandisk:
  • 64MB, 128 MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
Toshiba:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 512MB, 1 GB, 128 MB*, 256MB*, 512MB
Panasonic:
  • 64MB, 128MB, 256MB, 1 GB, 256MB*, 512MB*, 1GB*
* - Cards rated for 10MB/s (high speed) Other cards have not been tested. For more details on the memory cards listed above, please contact the manufacturer.

The list came direct from Nikon Support. Other cards may work, but only those on the list are approved. Successful use of other cards can not be guaranteed.

I hope this helps!

I just inserted a new 8GB memory card but it tells me ''OUT OF MEMORY'' I tried to format it but still gives me the same message. Why is that and what can I do about it please?

The memory card you are trying to use in the camera is not supported. This camera is an older technology that can not recognize the large 8 GB memory capacity of the card. In fact, the largest approved card your camera will recognize is 1 GB.

The list of approved memory cards was obtained from the Nikon Site directly, and pasted below for your convenience.

Nikon has tested the following cards and approved their use in the Coolpix 5700:

CompactFlash memory cards:
SanDisk SDCFB series 16 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB, 64 MB, 96 MB, and 128 MB
Lexar Media 4× USB series 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB, 64 MB, and 80 MB
Lexar Media 8× USB series 8 MB, 16 MB, 32 MB, 48 MB, 64 MB, and 80 MB
Lexar Media 10× USB series 128 MB and 160 MB
Lexar Media 40x USB WA series 256 MB*
Microtech International Digital Flash Film 1GB*
Delkin eFilm 650MB Pro*
Ritz Big Print 8x 256MB* (Edge Code 0E1B)

Microdrive cards:
DSCM-10512 512 MB
DSCM-11000 1 GB

The problem is that the largest xD card that your camera can support is a 256mb card. The M or H 256mb cards are not compatible. The firmware in the camera cannot support memory storage of that type. The camera came out before those cards did and there no plans to upgrade the camera to allow those types of cards to be supported.

I have a 256MB SD memory card (SanDisk). The case has split and my camera and my computer cannot read the card. Is there anything I can do? My Samsung L201 Camera and other cameras cannot read the my...

Try to check your memory card with at least 5 different computers. if they have card readers much better. memory cards have to be given at least 8MB for processing. It may have been used up even the space for processing. If haven't save the files before you kept it. It was really damaged. It needs to be formatted to make it function. There could be other reason why your memory card couldn't be detected. I'll just tell you next solution if you have tried this one. For now just do my suggestions for confirmation coz your pc has no support format for your memory card.
Please rate this solution for me to check any update.

Thanks....

Need more mp

Hello,
My son has the same camera with a 1 gigabyte Sandisk sd card. This allows him to store about 200 pictures at full resolution. The cards are very inexpensive. Here is a link to a 1gb card that is $8.28 on Amazon.com: http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Secure-Digital-SDSDB-1024-Package/dp/B000I5ZC3W/ref=pd_bbs_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1210104172&sr=8-2
If you plan to take small movies I would get a 2 gig card. Videos use much more memory. This one is $11.88 from Amazon"
http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Memory-Card-SDSDB-2048-Package/dp/B000J47W12/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1210104517&sr=8-1
Costco also has great prices on SD memory.
Important:
Your camera will not accept cards larger than 2 gigabytes.
If that helped please rate me well.
Take Care,

Memory card locked

I noticed that this camera does not work well with cheaper memory cards. The only brand that works without fail is the SanDisk brand.

Formating a CF sandisk card

I dont know about formmating CF sandisk card with canon A70, however, i can recommend another method: hook it up to your desktop and format it through a CF adaptor. It may take a couple of attempts. it didnt do any damage, at least not one that im aware of. Im not 100% sure though, so don't get me responsible in case it will damage yours. anyways, if you do it, you can try the process described above. good luck.
