to set up my remote network i followed promts from windows and then had to run my windows xp startup disc on my vista laptop.
After that was complete i had to install the hp printer setup cd onto my vista laptop and connect the hp printer to my router using the ethernet cable. I followed the prompts on the vista as the cd continued to install. then at the end of it all it showed i had correctly installed the printer via wireless and asked me to do a practice print which i did and all seems fine.
I can now print from my vista laptop and my windows xp desktop. I hope this helps
As your printer is not wireless itself you need to shared the printer. To enable this goto Control Panel on your desktop, select printers, right click your printer and there should be an option for sharing. Enable sharing. Now using your Vista laptops you should connect to your home network (in your case this is probably a wireless router, as long as your desktop is connected to this router too), goto Control Panel, printers, add printer, search for printer not connected to this copmputer (or network printer). Hopefully the Vista laptops will then pick it up and install it correctly. You may be asked to install the correct driver for the vista machines. Windows should provide you with instructions on how to do this. Hope this helps,www.PuterCare.com
I assume it's a Brother printer not your brother's printer right? I have an HP and it's a wireless printer which is accessible through my network, you have to install the printer driver and software on to the other laptop that is connected wirelessly to your network.
How many devices do you have connected to your USB ports. Many computers power supplies cannot handle the power drain of excessive devices (cell phone charger, digital camera, wireless keyboards and mouse, wifi adapter, and printers. Remove a few devices and see if the printer will work. If it does, get a cheap powered USB hub. And plug the other devices into it.
It may also be a software issue.
Vista has it's own drivers and will assign it's own to your
printer when you plug it in. This method will not work with many
external devices. Completely disconnect the printer. Then install the
lexmark driver. A window will pop up saying that the software being
loaded is not approved by windows. Click install anyway. The software
will instruct you when it is ok to connect the printer. You may have to
go into the printer and faxes (control panel) and delete the current
default printer.
May your printer doesn't fit to your operating system because Windows Vista is one of the complicated OS and hard to find installer or software to fit it in. Try to Replace your operating system that same as your brother have. maybe it can fix your problem!
When it asks for the software go to the location c:\windows\system32 and search for the software.See if it works, else
