NOTE: If you are trying these steps from your vehicle, it is
Recommended to follow when the vehicle is in a stationary position.
Make sure that the device is exposed to the clear view of sky.

With the antenna pointing upwards, remove the antenna and then re-insert.
Swivel it up and down to make sure its securely placed.

wait for few mins and check the signal indicator.
Still not working,

  • Turn on the unit and select any user.
  • Make sure that the antenna is in the upright position and the unit has
a direct line of sight with the sky.
  • Select 'Option' from the keypad.
  • Then select 'Configuration'.
  • Scroll down to select 'Diagnostics'.
  • Scroll down again to select 'Initialize GPS'.
  • At this point you would receive two options, 'Yes or No' - select 'YES'.
  • Now scroll down and select 'Set GPS Position'.
  • Enter your City, Street name and number at the corresponding
    prompts.

NOTE: The address that you are entering in the Set GPS Position should be the address at which you are at that point of time.

At the log in screen press the repeat and "-" (zoom out) button at the same time. Hold for a few seconds and release both buttons and it will come to a test screen. There are several tests for the CF card adn HDD test. There is also reset options but I only did the HDD (hard drive) test and it tested fine. I heard if you reset, you have to reload the updates. That means you would need the CD and key. I rather not do this. I only have a problem with the bottom of touch screen not working with finger or stylist. I ran all the tests under configuration/diagnostics and I was not able to pass the touch screen test on the lower part of screen.

Good luck... Magellan tech support did not know how to do this.

Resetting the unit might make the touch screen work again? I might do this. If I do I will try to get back here to update the site.

Connector J1 is the power connector. The left post corresponds to the center lug. The middle post is the outer connection. The right post closest to the USB connection is just an anchor - no connection.

what model is it the 700 does not have truck routes, how ever if you keep it set to fastest route that should keep you from getting stuck in a tight spot.

it is a dicontinued like mine roadmate700 and started losing sattilite signal like everyone says here ,i got upset i spent alot of money on it,then this happens, so i decided and bought the new magellan mastreo 4000 and just updated the software and no problems i love it,portable, thin light weight internal chargable battery that lasts 3hrs,the signal strenght is awsome, never had any problems,my advice junk it, the 700 like i did and purchase a new unit.this way it will save you alot of problems and headaches in the future, beleive me.

All navigation units are GPS Receivers - that is - they receive satellite signals. So, no there is no difference.

System works erratically

This can happen, as you probably know, when driving in areas of tall buildings - I have an extension aerial that sits on rthe car roof.

BUT BUT BUT.. these Magellan units are so poor compared to Tomtom and Magellan Support is RUBBISH!!!!!

I am at last binning my Roadmate 700 and am getting a Tomtom Go series which auto updates every time it's put on its cradle attached to my PC/internet.
