Question about Toshiba 50H82 50" Rear Projection Television
Hi. I have a Toshiba 50H82 rear projection. It has worked wonderfully for about 4 years,( i think!) However, a few weeks ago, I turned the unit on, and the color convergence was suddenly bad. Upon trying to align it, I quickly realized that the Red color would only adjust horizontally, not vertically.
I read several sites online, and quickly determined that my problem was probably in part #STK392-150, which I ordered a pair of.
UNFORTUNATELY, I did that BEFORE I took the back off of the thing! I really didn't think it would be difficult to find parts of this size inside the unit, but I really don't want to take apart more than I have to, and I am finding no schematics anywhere.
First: Do you agree that I am on the right track?
Second: If so, could you help me to locate this (these) part(s)?
Looking from the back of the TV there are 2 large finned aluminum heat sinks just right of center. The chips are mounted on them. The one that you need to change is the one closest to you. It will be marked on the bottom side of the board with the letter " V " Unfortunately the chip and heat sink have to be removed at the same time because there is no room to loosen the chip in circuit. This job requires excellent soldering and de soldering skills. There are tiny surface mounted components near the pins of the chip that can be easily dammaged. You also need to check for any burned resistors or open pico fuses near the chip. Use original Sanyo IC`s no generics. Be liberal with the heat sink compound. Good luck and yes you are on the right track. One last note, just change only 1 chip not both unless you are unsure.
