I now have two Acer al1711 with the same behavior. The screen and power light flashes on and off about once a second. I believe this is due to bad power supply. I'm a technician and would love pointers for what component might be replaced at board level.
The most likely cause is blown capacitors on the power supply/inverter board. Go to our web site at: www.ccl-la.com/badcaps.htm we have pictures of what the capacitors look like when the blow out. We also have some dis-assembly guides that may help you. Just open the back of he monitor and look at the board, replace all the blown capacitors that look like the ones in the pictures and you should be back going. The values hat you will need are going to be marked on the sides of the bad caps. Be sure to use a low ESR and high temp replacement or you will have to do this again in a month or two. We carry the proper caps in stock if you want us to supply you with them. The caps at Radio Shack will not do. When you replace the bad ones be sure to install the new ones with the polarity stripe on the side going the same direction as the old ones come out. If you have any additional questions just let me know.
I hope this helps, if you please rate our solution.
