No Sound on LG Super Blu-Ray Disc & HD DVD

I have an LG Super Blu DVD connected to a Sony Multi Channel AV Rreceiver then on to a Panasonic LCD Projector using hdmi cables. I get great video but no sound, when I disconnect the hdmi cable from the Receiver to the Projector, the video is gone (of course) but the sound is perfect! I am sure it is me, what am I doing wrong?

Not the cables connections - being hdmi there is only one cable from the dvd output to the receiver input and only one hdmi cable from the receiver output to the projector input. HD cable tv works fine, audio and video, I have switched cables and checked connections and I still have the same result, video from the dvd player but no audio. I think it is the settings in the receiver but have no idea what is right.

Its something wrong in the cables connection try to reconnect them! And make sure that the connection is perfect according to manual then try it. It should work nicely. Moreove HDMI has great sound + picture effect.

My Blu-Ray DVD player is connected to the AV Receiver with HDMI cable.

You're not going to get any difference using an optical cable. In fact, your receiver cannot look at both jacks at once anyway. If you select an input, it only looks at one jack, it cannot take info from both.

I have the LG Dn798 hooked up through my Yamaha receiver

Does it work via component or in a different HDMI port? If it does it sounds like either a bad HDMI input on the tv or a bad HDMI output on the receiver.

I would also verify that the receiver is 100% compliant with the HDMI standard as not all devices are.

if your DVD player supports a HDMI cable a single cable is enough for both audio and video channel.

Cabling -- Panasonic LCD TV into LG DVD player (model no. DV6812P)

Take the basic Red, White, Yellow component cable -- plug it into the backside of the DVD player and plug the other side into the back of the t.v. Make sure to plug the right colors into the right sockets. If there are no available AV inputs on the back of the t.v, plug the other end into your cable box (if you have one).
