I have a Singer 7184 and I can't get it to work when I plugged in it. I bought it in Germany and used it there. I bought the conversion endpiece but it doesn't turn on.

Looks like 1982, but there's no range.

Hu singer used specific letters to indicate where the machine was made. eg K=Kilbowie Scotland G=Germany MA= Italy

Most likely, when sending 220V through something that requires only 130V, you've fried the whole thing

It should be under warranty, take it to where you bought it, if after trying a different electrical outlet, and making sure that the cord is plugged in correctly, it still does not turn on, You could have a defective cord.

GO TO USA CABLES AND ORDER #CUSB-232A WHICH IS A 3' USB TO SERIAL ADAPTER INSTALL IT ON YOUR LAPTOP AND IT WILL WORK WITH VISTA, THIS IS THE CABLE THAT SINGER RECOMMENDS TO USE, THEN AFTER IT IS INSTALLED PLUG IT INTO THE NULL MODEM CABLE AND IT SHOULD READ THE SEW WARE CONVERSION. I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL OTHERS AND THIS IS THE ONLY ONE I CAN GET TO WORK WITH VISTA.

Sew-ware does not come with the sewing machine. You just have the conversion tool. Professional Sew-ware 2.00 converter box is sold optional. Do a google search and you will see what I am talking about. Your sewing machine reads from a smart card that comes with the PSW 2.00 converter box.
