I was able to fix this issue on my all-in-one 944 printer. What happened was that one of the ink cartridge lids had popped open. The hard part was that the carrier was stuck on the far left side, and I wasn't able to pull it over for easer access. However, I was able to fit a finger in and push the cartridge back down. Then when I turned the printer back on the error went away.

Hope this helps

I had the same problem with my Dell 924 printer.
But, the problem had nothing to do with the ink cartriges. I managed to slide the ink cartriges away from the jam, and saw that the problem was under the cartriges. There was a small black disk with silver teeth connected to an unravelled spring sticking up. I couldn't fix it, so I had no choice other than to cut off the spring-wire connecting it to the carrier. I had to make sure there was absolutely no wire sticking up at all... It's printing smoothly now, but I literally just fixed it, and I don't know how long it's going to last now. I don't know if I reccommend this option, but it's either this, or get a new printer. D: Do not follow this option unless you've tried the other solutions first!!

Jmhomulos, your solution certainly put me on the right track, however it was the cartridge on the far left that was the problem on my 944. I used a firm plastic kitchen spatula to hold cartridge top down enabeling both cartridges to engage properly.
I would never have fixed it if not for your help, I did not even know what a carrier was and as far as Dell's solution, well, stupid leading stupider comes to mind.

Thanks from Ireland,

Lilian1.

I got the "carrier jam" message with a terrible rasping sound after changing an ink catridge on a Dell 942 printer. Seems I had pressed down too hard on the lid of the ink case. Lifting the ink carrier apparatus slightly with a finger did the trick

I Got a dell printer and i don't know what to do and in the printer it says Clear Carrier Jam

Turn the printer on.
Lift the lid to expose the print-head mechanism.
The "carrier" is that part of the mechanism that moves the print-head across its range.
Something is physically blocking, or "jamming", that carrier.

The carrier is not taking the paper all the way in . I have tried feeding it through. I have tried cleaning the carrier. I don't think there is anything obstructing it. If it does take some of the paper...

How to clear carrier jam in Dell Photo All in One 944

simply open up your printer and see if there is any residual paper that get stuck, in some case if you can find some small miniature piece of sensor it might cause a erratic sensing that there is a presence of paper while there isnt, try to clear this or clean.
paper jamming indicator means there is some paper in the paper path, unless otherwise ou clear this up you cannnot print.
after you may need to power down or restart your printer once again
cheers

i had the same problem and i'm almost positive it's because i do not have a color ink cartridge in my printer. i called the technical support and they said that both ink cartridges have to be in the carrier for the printer to work. even if one of them does not have ink in it. hope this helps. Dell 944 All-in-One Printer - printhead carrier jam

I just found that one of the little feeder rollers (??) on the roller bar has jumped out and is sitting (still attached by its spring) on top of the roller bar. I reckon that's curtains for the printer. Am I right or is it repairable?
