Audio..Black Screen? I got this player, about a year and a half, my sister was watching something, and dropped it. It works..meaning the audio and sound, but the screen is black, except if you tilt it, you can just see a little bit of what is playing..It's completely fine besides that..I'm wondering if you can help..thanks so much

Re: Audio..Black Screen?

Either the backlight tube or the board that drives is broken, probably the tube - it's a cold cathode fluorescent, usually along the top or bottom of the screen. It may be fixable, but probably only worth it
if you DIY and can get replacement cheap enough. They can be a real pain to get to, usually cheaper to get a new player.

My durabrand pdv 709 dvd player's screen went black and wont come

It sounds like you have a circuit overloading. But, is this one of the Durabrand models that have been recalled by Durabrand/Wal-Mart? They recalled most or all DVD players built since 2006 because they have a tendency to overheat and catch fire. Look into it by calling your local Wal-Mart.

Left a dvd movie in player overnight - now have no audio.

Did you double check the connections from the DVD player to the TV? Maybe something happened to the connection overnight. If that dosen't seem to be the issue then the only other thing I can think of is that the Audio Encoding chip inside the player must have gone bad. The problem now is that it would cost more to repair the audio encoding chip then replace the whole player.

Sorry I couldn't help any further.

Screen is off to the side and has lines running through it

Usually when you have a million lines running through the screen it means the screen is cracked and you have to replace the whole screen. This usually happens when you drop the product or maybe you put it under something that applied alot of force on to the screen. Try to think back and remember if you placed it under alot of pressure at any point. This may have bent the screen enough that it became permanently damaged. Another theory is if you moved the player around alot that the cable that connects the screen to the rest of the player may have come loose. I know that this is a portable device but it can still happen. If you decide to open the player up to check the wire be very careful because the cable is usually paper thin and can break very easily. Lastly it could be that the screen just failed though this is extremely unlikely because they usually test the screen very extensively before it leaves the factory and if it worked there it would most likely work for a long time provided no external factors such as dropping the player occur.

Hope this helps!

DVP642 DVD Player is only working in Audio mode

Mine does the same. Cannot get a picture using the Yellow RCA output. Use an S-video cable if you can - it should still work. If you get a black and white picture using the S-video output, go to MENU > VIDEO page and change the output from PyBywhateveritis to S-video and the color will come back. I only found out mine was broken when I needed to use the s-video cable for something else and tried switching to the Composite Video (RCA) to no avail no matter how many cables or TV inputs I tried.

Try pressing down 1 on remote while the CD tray is open. That resets the default firmwire. It worked in my case when the screen was black with no audio or video.

My DVD player, stopped playing in color!

check to see if the coding is set to PAL or NTSC, when watching in PAL, NTSC shows up in black and white. ( NTSC is normal for the USA and a hand full of other countries... PAL is used in ASIA, EUROPE, and most everywhwere else).
