I have Acer Laptop Aspire 5580, whilst installation of XP professional I lost the sound from my laptop.
I;m not sure if its the volume software or sound software, that is been interrupted, is there anybody who can assist me with this problem.

- OK I HAVE DOWN INTEL CHIP SET DRIVER TRIED TO OPEN SYSTEM PROPERTIES BUT COULD NOT GO ANY FURTHER AS THIS IS LINKED TO THE CONTROL PANEL, I THINK THIS IS THE REAL PROBLEM AS I CAN ONLY LOCATE CONTROL PANEL IN NETWORK CONNECTIONS. WHEN I CLICK CP IT REFERS TO THIS OPERATION HAS BEEN CAN CELLED DUE RESTRICTIONS ON THIS COMPUTER. PLEASE CONTACT ADMINISTRATOR.IT IS GETTING MORE COMPLICATED ANY FURTHER IDEAS.
Acer has a web site where you can download software for your Aspire 5580. Your Laptop has a intergrated sound chip, XP may not have installed the driver for your speaker/sound system. You can try downloading at the link below (page 2)," Audio driver v.5.10.0.5273", or you can install your audio driver from the restore CD that came with the notebook. No restore CD's! This site has everything installed onto your notebook.
- Sure, you can download the chip set drivers from page 3. While we are at this could you open up System Properties, hit the Hardware tab and see if there are any yellow ? or ! in Device manager?

- Well Kevin that's not right! Your controll panel doesn't belong in network connections. It is safe to say windows did not install correctely the first time. I have a half dozen suggestions to get you up and running as fast as possible but typing is not 1of my greatest abilities. Could use input from you and this back & forth will not help. You can email me directly so I can get you up & running. triptic12@yahoo.com
For now I can only suggest a format & reinstall. If possible burn the chipset & audio drivers to CD/DVD. Your 5580 has WinXP & Vista installed from factory. Vista as a upgrade would have been fine but Acer used a patch job to make it harder on the user to go backwards to XP only. When you installed XP over XP/Vista it made a mess. Also it would not hurt to download all WinXP zip's & burn to CD/DVD, you'll need them later after reinstall.

went to turn on my altec lansing m604 this morning and no sound was comming out of the speaker. however, when i checked to see if my zune was turned on it was, and it was charging so i know its connected properly. speakers shouldnt be blown since its never up more than 50% volume level and ther has never been any crackling or distortion of the speakers. also, the unit has never fallen or in that fact been moved around much.
