Are you using the proper Firewire cable to connect? Also, the GL2 has had issue with the Firewire port going bad. Try a different cable and see if that helps. It can't be a USB-Firewire cable either.

Turn the power switch on your camcorder to "Off." Connect the USB cable that came with the camcorder to the USB port on the camcorder. If you are using the DV cable, connect one end of the cable to the computer first. Put the other end of the USB cable into the USB port on your computer. If you are using the DV cable, connect it to the camcorder. Power on your camcorder. Wait while your computer recognizes the attached JVC GR-D270U camcorder. Typically you will get a pop-up on your screen asking how you want to proceed once the camcorder has been recognized. Open your video editing software, such as Adobe Premiere, Roxie, iMovie or Windows Movie Maker. Import, or capture, the video from the camcorder to your computer using the video editing software. For example, in iMovie you click on "File," then "Import from Camera" to download the movie from your camcorder to the computer.

I believe this camera has a firewire/iLink connector.
Using a firewire cable will allow you to not only transfer videos, but will also let popular video editing software control your camera for ease of use!

As for the driver, your camera is specific to latin america.
You might try to download this program which is a licensed sony product, but will be in spanish. It may have drivers built in, which will allow your pc to properly recognize your device in other programs.

I connect the IEEE cable (4 pin to 4 pin) to the camera and the computer and turn the camera to "play". The camera is not recognized by the computer.

Check the cable first. It's easy - put another one. If it works - change the cable. If Not - check the PC input by connecting another similar camera. If it works with another camera, then Your IEEE camera port is broken and needs to be repaired. And the order of connection must be: 1. Power off camera. 2. Put IEEE cable on it. 3. Plug another connector of cable on computer. 4. Power on the camera. DON´T TRY TO CONNECT A CAMERA IN A PLAY MODE, it probably can destroy Your camera IEEE port. Sincerely.

Can not connect mini dv to computer via ieee1394 cable - he is not recognize the dcrpc120e sony

Make sure that the camera and the computer are both turned off. Put camera in the playback mode and turn off.
Turn camera and computer on at the same time and open your editing software. The software should then recognize the camera. Press play on the camera and capture on the software screen at the same time.

Can't get my computer to recognize the device

You may use different USB ports. Make sure your computer USB is v2.0 Computer's Bios and Chipset update could be a possible solution. You may also try Firewire/1394 Connection which is more reliable and faster for video editing and conversion.

Usually in professional use hook up the Camcorder directly to the computer is not very preferred, Using DV converters are more common such as Canopus products as you can find them on www.canopus.com

Unable to tansfer video to computer using DV cable..

Pinnacle software will recognize the camera installed through a firewire cable once the camera is turned on. Windows movies software doesn't recognize DV cameras. You may be able to get capture to work if you go to Microsoft.com and download the Windows Media 9.0 Development Kit. I believe DV input is a capture option.

There has to be a 3rd party program installed to get it to recognize it.

Good luck on that.

Firewire (i-link) computer does not recognize cam

as far as the camera not being recognized when using firewire, you have to use a genuine, original Sony i-link/firewire cable. for the longest time i couldn't figure out what was wrong with the camera. i tried two different cables and two different computers. finally i took it to a sony service center and had them check it out. when i went to pickup the camera they said there was no problem. i didn't believe them and asked to talk to the technician that worked on the camera. I told him to show me it worked and was recognized. He did indeed, but using a sony cable. when i gave him my cable to try, it didn't work. luckily they were nice enough to let me go without paying the $80 minimum charge for any work, including the diagnostic "plugging in sony cable" check. I then bought an overpriced sony firewire cable for $25 and everything works. Damn sony's proprietary **** (all the sony people i related this story to blamed the bad quality of the cables i had been using)
