Question about GE Profile Spectra JGBP90 Gas Kitchen Range

1 Answer

GE XL44 Oven - On/Off heating of bottom burner.

When the oven is turned on, the glow burners comes on and it takes about a minute before the gas valve opens and the lower burner comes on. But for some reason, the gas valve starts to open/close and this was visually verified when the cover on the lower burner was removed. The flame is full, then it suddenly seems to loose the gas feed to the point the flame goes out and then suddenly the flame goes full (as if the valve opened). This ossilication goes on and on and on. This occurs as the oven heat up and when it maintains temperature. I would have expected the flame to stay full when initially heating the oven. Have any recommendations (could it be the regulator??). Thanks

Mag...not sure here. Is there a particular reason that you're suspecting a problem? Does the unit heat much slower than before? Does it bake properly? You may be looking for problems that aren't.

My oven stopped working, broiler works also burners

I'd suggest testing to see if the burners are getting lit. If not, it might mean the ignitor has failed. To check the burner, select Bake to turn on the oven and then open the oven door. After a few seconds you should see an orange glow through the bottom of the oven and hear the hissing of the gas. If you don't, then the burners probably didn't light and I would suspect the ignitor. If it is the ignitor, this posting shows how I fixed my oven with the same problem:

GE gas oven spectra xl44 takes forever to preheat &sometimes will not

The way the oven works is like so:
1) User sets the desired temperature
2) Power is sent to the ignitor
3) The ignitor is then energized, drawing 3.2 amps of current
4) When the 3.2 amps is drawn, the gas safety valve is allowed to open and gas flows into the burner assembly in the oven.
5) This gas is then ignited, causing the oven to heat.
6) As the oven heats up, the oven sensor, which is the metal rod located at the top on the rear oven wall, converts the heat into an electrical signal, relaying this information to the main control which in turns displaying the temperature.
(In models with a dial thermostat, there won't be a sensor, though a metal wire with a bulbous end will be present, which is actually connected to the thermostat.)
Will all that said, more than likely the ignitor is bad in the oven, not drawing enough amperage to allow the safety valve to open. Even though the ignitor is lighting up and glowing, I'm 99% certain that this is the problem. Here is the part number for ignitor. WB2X9154 and can be ordered from any parts distributor or from a local supplier.

Unplug the range.
Remove the oven racks.
remove the oven base pan.
remove the flame spreader pan.
remove the glow bar ignitor on the left hand side of the gas burner and replace it with a good ignitor.

GE gas stove the burners on top work, the oven won't get hot

The most common reason a gas oven won't heat is a bad igniter. It is located near the valve and burner under the oven bottom. You can usually see it glow orange just before the fire lights. Most GE ranges take a cylindrical igniter part #WB2X9154 or #WB13K21 rectangular igniter.

Top works bottom doesn't

I have XL44 oven JGBP26. I replaced the glow ignitore on the oven but still will not glow. I carfully tested the current to the ignitore and showed 125 volts, I also tested the resistance on the control valve lead and to ignitore and showed 1100.
