My desktop computer will display anything when turned on, and the fan and hardrive both make a loud constant noise.

Maybe you need a larger power supply depending on if you might have added more hardware such as a graphics card, or an extra monitor to your system. This sometimes results in an inefficient supply of power, making your fan to your power supply work harder, thus making noise.

Try Ebay. use (Save search) incase one is listed later on.
You may have to buy a used or broken board, but they may include the manual in the auction.or try a Forum on M/B's

Try the manufacturer of the board's website.

Get online and got to In the google search box type: "Gateway Support" (without the quotes and put your manufacturer name before Support). Look for downloads and drivers. Enter your model number and operating system when requested. Look for specifications on the board.

Gateway is probably not the manufacturer of the board but they might have some info on it. If not, try the board's manufacturer.

Problems loading OS in Gateway desktop

Normally installing the os on a different mechine, and then putting into another pc dosent work.

If the hardrive is the oringinal drive, which came with the system, and you want to install xp on, you will have to use a dos disk with fdisk on it, delete all partitions on the drive and create a new partition, then start loading windows, it will give you the option to format the drive for nt(ntfs) file system and setup windows.

If you do that and it still gives you protecting files error, you will have to take the side panel of the computer tower, unplug from the mains and take the cmos battery out for about 30 secs, put the battery back in, plug in the mains and reboot the computer, start loading windows again
Hope this helps and post back if you need further assistance.

Gateway gt5473e sound problems, rear sound works when set for quad but not stereo

certain sound card chipsets will not use the extended ports when you have it set to stereo, if you have a front and rear set, you should run them as they are with the correct setting.

this could also be the program used. many programs use the OS setting for the speaks. if the os is set to stereo it will not use the rear channels and will only output to the front.

Missing local area network

It is possible that the drivers for your modem, or wireless card that you have in your computer wasn't on the disk that you had. That came with your comptuer that you installed on your new hardrive.

go to

They have a Free Driver Scan program that you can scan your comptuer, see if your missing or need to update any drivers for what you have. Then you can download the drivers for free.

Good luck.

Please rate me, and give feed back, or recommend me it be much helpful.

Need to remove a hardrive

You open the case and remove it.
Replace it with a new one.
I think this is what you are asking.
Replace it with the same kind--if it's an IDE drive, you'll need a new IDE drive. SATA drives need to be replaced with like kind.
Size doesn't usually matter except in an older system.
Once you place a new drive in the system, you'll need to run the recovery disk that came with the computer or get a copy of the same version of Windows and use the code that should be on the case.
