Question about Sony KDS-R50XBR1 50" HDTV
We have had several problems with our KDS-R50XRV1 and I am looking for some new advice. We purchased the TV in Dec of '05 and did not have any problems until last month. The TV would turn on for a brief second and then turn off then the light would go to red and blink 4 times. We read all of the posts on the optical block and so we called and had it replaced. At the same time we also purchased a new bulb but found that the yellow problem went away and the TV powered on fine so we did not change the bulb.
The next day it had the same 4 red blinking lights. We read some other posts about the fans. We took the back cover off and used canned air and cleaned out the fans. Again the TV worked for a day or two and then back to the red lights (4).
We have since made sure that it was connected directly to the wall outlet and also changed the bulb that we purchased when we had the optical block replaced. It will turn on some times and then others it will turn on for a second then off with the 4 red blinks. Once it gets in this state we have to either unplug it for a while or remove the lamp and put it back in.
I am getting so frustrated. I cannot believe that a TV that was so expensive is such a hunk of junk. Any other ideas?
I have the same problem with this tv. the only solution was pounding repeatedly to the right of the power button. There is a sensor underneath this spot and it is indicating that this panel is open. After 2 years of radomly having this problem, I opened up the panel and rigged the button, and I have not had the problem since

I found the following suggestion on avsforum.com and it worked perfectly (going through the lamp door).

I'm a longtime lurker not much of a poster, but this happened to me to yesterday. I used civicsixxx's advice and this works. However you don't have to take anything apart. All I did was take out the lamp then put your hand in carefully to the right and you'l feel the fan just give it a spin and plug back in the light and the TV your good to go. Hope this helps.
